I breathed in the fresh air and looked around. It smelt strongly of wet trees. I heard a rustle in some trees beyond the ones I saw. I looked towards the sound and saw a big black lion. He emerged from the trees into the small clearing I was standing in. It looked at me with red eyes and slowly padded closer. It reached out its muzzle and I was about to touch it when I heard, "Mr. Zhang! Get up!" The lion jerked its head away and ran off.
"Mr. Zhang!!"
I opened my eyes. I dozed off in ELA. Again. Ms. Christen was glaring at me while my classmates snickered. They're so nice.
"We're you sleeping again?" She asked.
"Uh...... n-no," I lied. Ms. Christen crossed her arms and eyed me suspiciously.
"Then please read the first paragraph in The Book Thief," she said. I looked down at the thick book that was thicker than five inches. I opened the cover and the words swam across the page. I sighed in defeat.
"I-I'm sorry. I can't," I muttered while closing the book.
"What was that Mr. Zhang?" Ms. Christen said.
"I can't," I said louder. The kids snickered again, except for two who were giving me a sympathetic look. They know how I feel. Ms. Christen just smiled.
"Then I want you to read that chapter by yourself and answer some questions I have. Then I'll know if you read it, unlike last time." I sighed and looked down at the book. That was gonna take a while. Ms. Christen smirked again.
"Ms. Parker, will you read it?" she asked while looking at me then pointing out the door. I picked up my book and lumbered out the door.

"How was it when I left?" I asked.
"The same, but she decided to pick on Adam and I instead," Maddy said. Adam nodded. Maddy had long red hair that was usually in a braid, and she wore yellow and gold a lot. Adam had shaggy honey hair, black glasses but he wore contacts a lot, and was pretty skinny.
"She's worse than Hades on steroids," Adam agreed.
"I know you like Greek Class, but must you always make references?" I asked. He nodded and I rolled my eyes and looked at my potato salad. I poked it with my fork and Adam looked at it.
"Are you gonna eat that?" he asked. Adam surprisingly ate a lot. I shook my head and slid it towards him. He smiled and ate it.
"So, excited about the fall dance soon?" Maddy asked. I shrugged again.
"I'm honestly surprised you don't have a date," Adam said between bites.
"Yea," Maddy agreed. I groaned and my face fell into the potato salad. I was one of the best looking boys in the school, but no one really noticed me. Girls would occasionally go for Adam, but they were always turned down because Adam didn't, uh, like girls in that way.
"You have something on your face," Maddy giggled. Adam was laughing as he handed me a napkin. I took it and wiped at my face while Maddy and Adam finished laughing. I looked around and saw the dean releasing students out of lunch. When he got to our table, I stood up and tossed my brown paper sack and napkin into the garbage.
