You were right about the knights' sleeping quarters. Not only did the stress of your new life and the possibility of it ending keep you awake, but so did the copious amount of snoring, grunting and farting by four large, grown men.
You fight your way out of a dream, feeling danger around you. Before your eyes can open, you feel something warm around you as you lay on your side in the small cot. And something a little harder presses into the back of your thigh. Your lids flash open, though it makes little difference, the room around you is very dark.
You yelp, your heart hammering in your chest, and you scramble out of the cot, stumbling to the floor before you find your footing. Your breath is fast and shallow.
"What the fuck?!" it isn't quite a whisper, but your voice is breathy and high pitched from your shock.
You hear a familiar chuckle in the dark. And can see Ushar's amused face in your mind as you whirl around to face him in the dark. A shadowed figure sits up in the bed.
"You sleep in my bed then try to act surprised when you wake up with me in it?"
You clutch at your chest, willing your heart to slow. "I thought you were scouting."
"I was. And now I'm trying to sleep." He lays back down. "You can either come back to bed or stumble around until you find Kuruk's empty cot."
You whisper angrily. "I think I'll take my chances." You know what you felt. No way was he trying to sleep. You roll your eyes in the dark.
With your hands out in front of you, you stumble around the room, listening for snores and breathing until you find the last empty cot. Before falling back asleep, you spend a moment inhaling Kuruk's scent on his small blanket and pillow. It smells much cleaner than the cot you just left. You suspect there's varying degrees of personal hygiene between these men.
You try to make yourself eat at least a few bites of rehydrated portion, but the first bite falls into your stomach like a rock. Instead, you make yourself drink a large amount of water, knowing you'll be close to death if you even make it out alive, and being dehydrated would not be helpful.
Something changed in you overnight. You no longer go to face death as a certainly. When you were apprehended at the cantina, you felt as though you were choosing to die later rather than that moment. But now you see it for what it is. A test. An opportunity to show your power, strength, and skill. Even spending mere hours with these men has cemented your view that you are facing death as a choice, your own choice, for the chance to be someone who is worth something. And that chance is worth dying for.
You try your best to reciprocate and feed off the knights' eager anticipation for a fight. A really good fight, according to Ap'lek and Trudgen. They seem to have more faith in your abilities than the others. You force yourself to take deep, even breaths as you lace up your boots, making sure your chains are all in the right place and sending your love down toward your only possession.
