Kuruk races along the edge of the cliff, then leaps down. You yelp, following on his heels, and you nearly fall off the cliff. Your feet slide to a stop as you hear his voice in your comms.
"Jump. It's not far, I won't let you fall. There's no time, we have to get closer!"
You take a deep breath, looking down at him from what looks to you like a significant height. Gritting your teeth, you drop down. You land hard on your feet and Kuruk grips your arm as you stumble just a little. Then he moves on, his rifle strapped to his back and scaling down the short wall to a small, dry ravine. You follow, focusing your tired muscles to carry you without shaking and without hesitation.
You drop down and run behind Kuruk, huffing. He drops to his stomach quickly at the edge of what's probably a waterfall if it would ever rain here. You look down at the scene before you with the night vision filter of your helmet. There's people below you, about twenty feet down, scrambling and packing and shouting. They must have seen the Buzzard in this sky.
You don't have much of a chance to catch your breath or take in the situation before Large, black masked figures rush onto the scene. You frown, looking at each of them as they start to engage. Master isn't there. You wonder what he could be doing.
Then your eyes focus on the mechanics. The way the knights corner and separate the frantic people. And when the fighting starts, you're absolutely shocked. You thought for sure this would be a quick confrontation. But every single one of these people are highly skilled fighters. Trudgen takes on four at a time and he has his hands full.
"Look at Vicrul." Kuruk mutters into your comms.
Your eyes search for him, slashing and whirling. He's been pushed up against a cliff wall, cornered by three people with blasters and knives. There's a loud 'zing' next to you. And Kuruk's muscles stiffen. You watch one of Vicrul's assailants go down, the one with a blaster. Now Vicrul slashes at the other two, slicing through shoulder muscle and gut. One of them goes down.
"Trudgen."
Your eyes shift quickly. And Kuruk shoots again. You see the blood spray, even in night vision. The head of a blaster carrier half explodes. He crumbles to the ground.
"Always go for the blaster first. Blaster shots are hard to deflect. It takes a lot of concentration. I think you'll start that next week with Master and I."
He sounds so calm, so casual. Meanwhile, your heart pounds in your chest. Trudgen is still struggling. He's now backed against the wall directly under you. You find yourself starting to lean over, but Kuruk holds you back.
"We do not compromise our position. Look up, and to the north-east."
You try, but you don't understand. "What am I supposed to be looking at?"
He sighs in frustration. "Can't you see the blaster shots coming from above?"
You look back down at the fight, and this time, you notice. You gasp. Then try to trail your eyes up the north-east along the cliff face. But there's no movement.
