My wish upon a star
would not be filled
with roses and riches.
No,
I would ask for all the dark
shadows
and grimly sad days.
My Genie won't give me
a partner for life
or even a happy ending,
no,
I would ask for all the daggers
thrust at me,
slithering words
coming at me like bullets.
My night prayers won't
be for rainbow skies
or a day that just goes by,
no,
I'll pray for stormy clouds
and thunder shaking my cells
never-ending days
and jittery nights.
My coins beneath the fountain
would never ask for anything
that makes you smile
Or has you at peace for
even a minute,
no,
I'll wish so hard
I am trapped and caged
that I'll finally be used to it.
My wish upon a star will never
have a single good charm in it.
For I have seen happiness,
faith,
love,
and wonders.
It hasn't been anything
I've not heard,
a cost so high to pay
you'd never want to chuckle.
And my wishes have been
feathered in the dark
ever since.
