Yonghee: Tell me why you don't want this marriage.

Her straight face scares the shit out of me, but I have to do this.

Changbin: I'm... gay.

I wait for her to yell at me or insult me, but she just smiles.

Yonghee: Okay.

Changbin: What- okay? What does that mean?

Yonghee: I don't want to marry you either, no offense.

Changbin: Why? Do you have a boyfriend? Does he look better than me?

I roll up my sleeves and flex my biceps, smirking with pride.

Yonghee: No, you little shit. I'm lesbian. I have a girlfriend.

...

Changbin: Oh...

Yonghee: Yeah, so all that meat you have won't have any effect on me.

I smile sheepishly and roll down my sleeves.

Changbin: So can you just tell your parents that you're lesbian and stop this marriage?

Yonghee: They already know, they're forcing me to do this. Why can't you do that?

Changbin: Well, same here. I've been trying to convince my father to stop this marriage ever since I found out.

Yonghee: Okay, look. I love my girlfriend, and I will not marry you. Even if I have to poison your food to kill you or something like that.

Changbin: WOAH let's not go that far. We'll figure something out. At least we're both on the same page about this.

She nods and I contemplate whether or not I should ask her.

Changbin: So... my father told me I would be going to the same school as you... Does that mean you're still in high school?

Yonghee: I... was a late bloomer. Don't judge.

Changbin: Alright alright. So you wanna get to each other? We'll be spending a lot of time together, whether we like I or no.

Yonghee: Sure, what's your favorite color?

Changbin: Black. I love dark.

~

Changbin: After getting to know you, I think I wouldn't mind marrying you if we were both straight and you weren't 5 years older than me.

Yonghee: Well, I would. I don't want my husband to have to look up every time he wants to see me.

Changbin: Hey! I'm not that short!

Yonghee: But you're short enough.

I roll my eyes and stand up.

Changbin: I'm gonna jet. It's getting late.

Yonghee: Get in the car, I'm your ride back.

Changbin: Right, I forgot.

We head back and right when we enter my house, my father and Mr. Kim and standing in the hallway.

Father: Oh, you're back. How did it go, Yonghee? Did my son bother you?

Yonghee: No no, uncle. He was very charming. I enjoyed it.

I stifle my laughter and look down to hide my smile.

Mr. Kim: I'll take my daughter home now. And the engagement is next week, right?

Father: Yes it is, I'll have all the arrangements done 2 days prior to the event.

Mr. Kim: Wonderful. I'll see you later Changbin.

He waves and I do a small bow.

Once they leave, my father looks at me.

Father: At least you weren't a complete embarrassment.

A sudden rush of anger goes through my body.

Changbin: Is that what you think of me? An embarrassment?

He chuckles and looks at the ceiling.

Father: Yes.
