(Pit's POV)
What? She was asking about Pittoo? What was so important about Pittoo that she was asking Lady Palutena about it? It didn't make sense. Now that Hades was dead and Viridi isn't on our side, neither is Pittoo. Why does she want to know about the enemy?
My head was spinning with questions and no possible answers were coming to mind. (Y/n) doesn't seem like the type to care about things that want to kill her. Or maybe she was. I didn't know, but I needed to find out what was so compelling about my copycat.
"I better go get him," I heard (Y/n) say and I knew it was time to make a break for it. Passing the corner of the hall, I caught my breath. It felt like I had never run so fast in my life! I heard her going the other way toward the arena. Blue must have wandered into the armory or something.
Taking a deep breath, I came back around the corner. "Hey, (Y/n)! Where are you headed?"
"About to get lost on the way to the arena, I suppose," she sighed. "How do you guys find anything in this place?"
"It gets easier with time," I said cheerfully. But seeing (Y/n) trying to stay positive was hard. She was focused on other things, and I could see it on her face. I knew I had to help her somehow.
Lady Palutena and I were the closest things she had to family, and it seemed everything outside wanted to kill her. Going on missions and taking down gods and goddesses like Hades who wanted me dead, connected me with how she felt.
"(Y/n), everything going to be ok, ok? This is the safest place in the entire universe!" I told her.
(Y/n) looked up at me, a little scared almost. "How did you know what I was thinking?"
"Just a hunched," I gave her a close-eyed smile.
We turned the corner, through the large double doors propped open and guarded by centurions. The arena is similar to the Colosseum in Rome, but with less seating. When (Y/n) laid her eyes on it, she was as hyped as I was when I saw it for the first time. I remember Lady Palutena laying a hand on my shoulder and saying that this was the place where I was going to train to become a great warrior one day.
"This place is incredible! It's just like traveling to Europe to see the Colosseum for myself!" Her face lit up. "Show me the whole thing!!!"
"I know, right? It's my favorite place in the temple!" we gushed over it together. "This is where I do all my training!"
"How many people does this place fit?!" (Y/n) asked turning in a circle to get a full view of the arena in the moonlight.
"Oh, Blue!" she exclaimed, letting the cat come to her. Blue was very attached to (Y/n). I could practically feel the bond they had.
Then I walked her and Blue over to the armory and weapons. "This is where you can find all kinds of things that Lady Palutena's army uses to defeat threats to Skyworld."
The walls were lined with chest plates and helmets and other armor on one side and all sorts of weapons on the other. I saw (Y/n)'s gaze fall on the staff shelf and my line of sight followed hers. "What even are these?"
I had an idea when she asked me that. The most impressive staff we had was the dimension staff. If she wanted to know about Pittoo so badly, I could show her where he's from. "(Y/n), do you want to see something really cool?"
"Sure!" she agreed whole-heartedly. Blue walked beside her everywhere she went. He's just so cute! I want a cat now too! Well, I'm really more of a dog person. But that isn't the point.
(Y/n), Blue and I stood in the center of the arena as I held the tall staff. I kind of wish I wasn't holding it because it was making me feel short. With the hand that was holding the staff, I gripped it tighter, envisioning my destination, but it was scary because the magic of the portal opening makes you see it more vividly in your head too. I hate the Labyrinth of Deceit so much!! I am never going back there.
"Um, Pit!?" I heard (Y/n) say. "Is that thing safe?!?!"
"It should be, I think," I told her, but the more I thought about it, the less I believed.
When I opened my eyes, I held back the loudest scream of my life because, for a second, I thought I was going to fall through the portal. (Y/n) ran up to the edge and looked over into the abyss of pure chaos.
"Is this the-"
"Labyrinth of Deceit? Yes, and we are never going in there, but that's where Pittoo came from since you wanted to know!" I cut her off, giving her the full breakdown of what she was looking at.
"But how did you know I knew about it?" She looked alarmed, and I was sure I looked even worse.
In a panic of not wanting (Y/n) to think I was a creep for listening to her conversation, I had to come clean or make up an excuse or SOMETHING!!! "I'M SORRY I WAS LISTENING TO YOU ASK ABOUT PITTOO AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHY BUT I WANTED TO SHOW YOU THIS BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE HELPFUUULL!!!"
She looked stunned and I was scared my pleas for forgiveness blew out her human eardrums.
"It's fine, Pit. Really," she laughed sheepishly, but I didn't know if she meant it. Then she changed the subject. "So, this staff can open a portal to any dimension any number of times?"
"Pretty much. At least, I haven't found a defect to it yet," I scratched my head.
"How did you activate it?" she questioned more. The longer I held it in my hand, the more she was interested in it.
"You just visualize where you want to go and say it in your head. Then you draw a line down the middle of the portal you opened to close it again," I explained. "But don't use this. I'm sure most dimensions are not human-friendly."
"Oh yeah," (Y/n) agreed. "No life-threatening situations with hostile monsters for me."
I closed the portal. "Is there anything else you wanna see?"
"Actually, I was going to get Blue and I ready for bed," she informed, looking around for the cat. "Where did Blue go??"
