A 9-year-old? I didn't voice my thoughts, as much as I wanted to express my concern about the entire realm. My opinion would have only made things worse. The goddess before me looked to be no older than a pre-teen. Her hair trailed over her shoulder, bound in a ponytail and spilled off the side of her throne.

The throne in question was made of tree roots overrun with vines, like everywhere else in what I assumed to be Viridi's throne room.

"So, you are Palutena's precious little pet. They must have guarded you with their lives if it took my stealthiest commander to take so long," the goddess eyed Pittoo. "Why were you even gone for a week and a half?!"

When she said that, it occurred to me that Dark Pit must have been hunting me down since I saw him fight Pit. How long had I been watched without knowing? The thought made me shiver internally.

"I'm doing the work," Dark Pit scowled. "I'll take all the time I need."

"Well, I guess you're right," she admitted. "Let the execution begin-"

The thought of dying right then and there left me petrified for a moment before I found a way to save myself. I opened my satchel and took out the box, watching as Viridi and Dark Pit's expressions filled with confusion. I held the box in front of me, facedown.

Viridi, who was taking a sip of water, spit it out in utter shock at the sight of the engraved message before her.

That's when Dark Pit cut in. "This is what you were going to give Pandora?! Do you know what this is!?"

"The human was going to WHAT!?" Viridi shrieked. "Dark Pit, I need an explanation! DETAILED!!!"

"You see, Viridi," Dark Pit started to explain before I could say anything. "This girl is more than she looks."

"Dark Pit, what are you trying to say?" the goddess rolled her eyes.

The raven angel gave me a look that I interpreted as "keep quiet." So, it was up to him alone to keep me alive.

"She claims to be cursed," Dark Pit explained. "With bad luck."

"Oh, so what you are saying is that we are dealing with an underling of Pandora?" The goddess rolled her eyes. "Might as well eradicate the human right now. POSPHORA!!!"

"What's going on, Mistress Viridi?" Phosphora walked into the room. Upon seeing me, the blond girl's eyes lit up. "Is it execution time?"

"We can't yet. You know Pandora doesn't work with anyone," Dark Pit pointed out. "The only time she's ever tried to take someone under her wing was when I was created. The rest of her army is just mindless drones created by the mirror of truth."

"Go on," Viridi urged, somehow open to the idea of Dark Pit proving her otherwise.

"The bad luck didn't come from Pandora, but wherever it's from, I think we can all agree that it's pretty bad luck for a human to find something like this," Dark Pit continued.

"That's true," Phosphora chimed in, reading the engraving on the box. "Girl, how are you not dead?!"

"As Dark Pit said, I'm not exactly human," I spoke up as Dark Pit glanced sideways at me.

The goddess of nature sat back, thinking over the situation. "I guess it makes sense. Phosphora's right. The human should be dead."

"I can help with that," Phosphora piped up.

"Whoa, hold your fire!" Viridi made the goddess of lightning stop in her tracks. "If we end up murdering Palutena's new pet, that isn't even human, we'll create more problems than we solve."

"Glad someone can think with sense," Dark Pit, said under his breath and it took everything not to laugh.

"I will take the power of flight away and kick you out SO FAST-"

"FINE! I'M SORRY!"

"Um, if I can ask-" I questioned before I was cut off."

"No one told you to speak, half-human!" Viridi shut me up fast enough to make my head spin.

"Maybe we should let her talk," Phosphora suggested.

"Why are you on her side?!" Viridi gave her a look.

"This is the most interesting thing that's happened here since the war. I could use the entertainment," she explained.

"Why do I always hire the most stupid people?" Viridi said under her breath, rolling her eyes.

"HEY!" Phosphora and Dark Pit yelled together.

"Fine let the half-human talk. I don't care."

Phosphora looked to me as she anticipated my question. "What's in this box?"

Viridi cackled, "The half-human is dumber than I thought!"

"I guess I'll be filling you in," Dark Pit sighed as Viridi continued to double over in laughter. "To put it simply, this is how evil was unleashed onto the world. Pandora was originally a human with unruly curiosity. Zeus gave her a box and told her not to open it. She opened it anyway and let all sorts of things out. But there are still things in there, and things that have returned to the box that are even worse."

"So... don't open the box?" I confirmed.

"Have you been listening??" Dark Pit raised a brow, making Viridi laugh even harder.

"It was a rhetorical question!" I said before Viridi had another thing to laugh at me for.

Dark Pit sighed, turning to Viridi. "So, to refresh us all, we can't kill the half-human because she's not fully human and it would start meaningless wars with Palutena if we did kill her. Do you believe in her bad luck now, Viridi?"

"Yeah, yeah. I believe," she reluctantly admitted. I was so relieved that I had one less thing to worry about. "Anyone that finds that box has got it bad."

"Wait, since we have her, do we get to hold the half-human for ransom money?" Phosphora butted in.

"Can none of you listen?!" Dark Pit looked as if he wanted to strangle the lightning girl. "What did I just say about starting meaningless wars!?"

"It's not meaningless if we get money," Phosphora pointed out. "Right Viridi?"

"Now that you mention it," Viridi started. "That's not the worst idea you have ever had."

"And if they don't come to get her, we can have the execution!" Phosphora exclaimed.

"Genius!" Viridi's eye's sparkled. "Alright, Dark Pit! TAKE IT TO THE DUNGEON!!!"

Dark Pit facepalmed, for the girls had somehow circled back to square one. Glancing down at the box in my hands, I had an idea. I held the latch, able to open the box at a moment's notice. "Let me go or I open it!!"

"NOOOOOO!!!" all three shouted in unison.

I couldn't help the smirk of superiority spreading across my face as I let the latch go. "Thank you."

"All right, now let's get you back to Palutena's temple," Viridi said. "Before you unleash the end of the world in MY domain."

"Thank goddess," Phosphora caught her breath after the stunt I almost pulled.

"One thing, half human," she stopped me. "You must return the box to where you found it. After Pandora became a goddess, it was hidden somewhere she wasn't supposed to find it. Things need to stay that way."

"You have my word," I reassured her, and I swear I saw Dark Pit smile out of the corner of my eye.

That's when she called upon a heavenly light that transported me back to the arena of the silent temple. All the guards were half asleep, if not all the way in dreamland, so getting to my room without being seen wasn't a problem.

When my head hit the pillow, for only a moment, my mind was just as at peace as the rest of Skyworld.
