                                               Chapter Twenty One-Broken Ties

Olivia stood in the infirmary, her lip held between her teeth and her fingers anxiously  fidgeting with the edge of her jacket as her eyes remained on the cot on which Jocelyn Fairchild was laying.

''You think she's alright in there?'' she asked.

They had successfully managed to bring Jocelyn to the Institute, but she was still unconscious and none of them knew how they were going to wake her up.

It bothered them. It bothered all of them.

''Yeah.'' Luke replied. ''That's what we're hoping for, right?''

''Yep.''

''She looks so peaceful now,'' Clary commented, her eyes soft and vulnerable. ''I wish we knew how to reach her.''

''I'm sorry.'' Luke sighed, regret coating his face as he looked between the two sisters. ''We should have told you everything before this got ou-''

''Luke, we can talk about all of that once we find a way to wake mom up.''

''The important thing is that we have her back,'' Olivia added and peered down at her mother. She wasn't angry at Jocelyn, not anymore. All the girl wanted was for her mom to come out of her coma and rejoin their world.

''I'm looking for Lydia.'' Alec entered the infirmary, his arms crossed behind his back and his eyes glancing between the three. ''Have you seen her?'' he asked and then realized that he had stepped in between their conversation. ''I didn't mean to interrupt or anything.''

''You didn't,'' Olivia assured,  her eyes softening as she remembered the way Alec had saved her from becoming a victim of the Inquisitor's wrath.

''Stay for a moment,'' Clary added.

Olivia's phone suddenly dinged and she pulled it out of her pocket to see that Ian had sent her a message. Meet me in the Ops Center. We're preparing for a mission. She blinked and then frowned as she re-read the message. What mission was Ian talking about? And why were they even going on a mission? Alec's wedding was happening tomorrow and all of them, especially his brothers,  should be taking a day off and preparing for his big day.

''I, uh, have to go.'' she placed her phone back inside her pocket and looked up at the three. ''Ian needs me for something.''

''Yeah, go.''

''Thanks.'' Olivia smiled and gave her mother a last glance before turning around and walking out of the infirmary.

 ~*~*~*~*~*~

The brunette walked into the Ops Center, and after seeing Ian, along with Jace and Magnus, sitting around a table, she hurriedly moved towards them.
