Chapter Ten-Repeated Occurrences
''Why'd you run out?'' Alec quizzed as he and Olivia came up behind Clary, who was standing outside the Brooklyn Art Academy and was frantically looking through her bag for her ringing phone. ''And what's the point of an invisibility rune if you can't silence your phone?''
Olivia absentmindedly scratched at her outer forearm, where Alec had burned the invisibility rune a few minutes ago, and quickly glanced around her, observing how the confused passerby's were stopping and checking their own phones.
''It was childish, sneaking out like that..''
Clary rolled her eyes, pulled out her phone, and pressed the answer key with her thumb before holding it against her ear. ''Simon, hey,'' she spoke into the phone, moving away from the two older people and making them huff in annoyance.
''I know I should have called you right back. I'm sorry. Are you okay?''
Olivia grumbled under her breath and decided to do listen in to Clary's and Simon's conversation--something that would probably not have been possible if she hadn't had werewolf hearing.
''You know that thing when you think you're catching a cold but you never actually get sick?'' Simon's voice came from the other side.
Olivia frowned. His usually cheerfull and full of life sounded weak and dull.
Was he okay?
She certainly hoped so.
''Yeah, I get it...'' Clary trailed off, watching out of the corner of her eye as Alec, followed by a slightly concerned Olivia, moved towards her. ''Um, can we talk later? Things are kind of insane right now.''
''Insane, how? You okay?"
''I...I kind of killed a demon and lost all my memories forever, so...''
''You killed a what?'' Simon's voice rose an octave in shock, and even though he wasn't there physically, Olivia could, strangely enough, perfectly imagine the look of pure horror on the bespectacled boy's face. ''Okay, Clary, where are you?''
''Tell him to not get involved in this,'' Olivia told her sister firmly, not wanting to see Simon end up getting entangled in their mess again.
Clary, however, didn't listen to Olivia's words, which annoyed the brunette even further.
''I'm at the Brooklyn Academy.'' she spoke, ''I am on my way to-''
''-Hang up.'' Alec cut in, getting irritated and impatient by the girl's habit of not listening to anyone. ''That's it, we have to go. Right now.''
The younger girl peered up at him with narrowed eyes, ''No, I am on my way to the loft. There is something there that I think could help find my mother.''
