Heroes

Casual conversation was hard to keep when you're waiting on the outcome of a big villain bust whilst also waiting on the arrest of the person who burnt down your apartment.

On one hand, I was happy we had evidence against an arsonist and the idea of him going to jail granted me a sense of security. But on the other hand, we had no news on what was happening with the League of Villains raid.

"How long do you think it'll take until we get an update?" thinking out loud, I took a sip of my tea. Uncomfortable with the false sense of normality it brought with it. There wasn't anything normal with this situation.

Yes, fighting villains is part of the daily routine for a hero, but this was a bigger operation. From what they were able to tell us before the raid, there was a lot at risk. But not if everything went to plan. So not hearing anything? I wasn't sure whether that was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Well just have to wait, y/n." Nezu squeaked.

And we did. We waited for a while before I stood up and switched on the TV flicking to the news.

"-Half of the Kamino ward was demolished in a single horrifying instant. All Might is currently fighting the villain who appears to have caused the blast-"

"Oh my god..." My eyes widened at the scene being broadcast, rubble and smoke spreading out over such a large area it seemed impossible, and yet there it was, live on TV.

The sofa shifted as Shota stood up and walked closer to the screen as if he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing, Nezu did the same.

The room was silent except for the voices of the news reporters and the spinning blades of the helicopter he was in.

"-How is one person so powerful? He's destroyed the city and is holding his own against the symbol of peace-"

Against All Might? Is that even possible?

The plan- it's gone wrong.

The TV flashed with red and the camera wobbled, pushed back by what I assumed to be the villain's quirk, smoke filled the air and I almost forgot to breathe when the fog began to dissipate.

Was that?

No, it couldn't be.

Could it?

Skinny and scrawny, skeletal in comparison to the muscular hero who stood in the same spot only seconds before. It had to be him, they wore the same costume, though now hanging limply around their weakened frame.

Was that really All Might? The symbol of peace?

I let out an audible gasp, looking at Shota, who had the same look of worry on his face, though not the surprise.

Did he already know?

"-Is-Is everyone else seeing this? It looks like All Might's been shrunk somehow?-"

My eyes snapped back to the screen, slowly processing the scene unfolding in front of me.

Holy shit.

It is.

He looked so defeated. Frozen in place.

"Come on All Might," I muttered under my breath, my hand reaching for Shota's as I stood next to him.

Light flared from his right arm as it grew more muscular, and hope grew in me, just as more pro's appeared on the screen, grabbing the fallen heroes and civilians scattered around the scene.

Flames roared against the dark sky as Endeavour directed his power at the now-floating villain.

They were there to support him.

In the end, isn't that what heroes do?

They provide support and instil a feeling of safety in those they protect.

But most importantly, heroes help those in need.

Nezu and Vlad King began shouting words of encouragement at the screen, while Shota tightened his grip on mine, a look of determination and silent motivation etched onto his face.

It was a feeble gesture, yet a gesture nonetheless.

A gesture that showed we still had faith in the No.1 hero, no matter how weak he looked. One that, though unheard by the man it was meant for, filled all our hearts with that flicker of hope we needed. The flicker of hope that burned in the hearts of every observer was so bright that it grew into a flame.

I hoped, though far away, the symbol of peace could at least feel those hearts rallying for him.

"ALL MIGHT!

The shouts around me grew louder as the villain sent yet another powerful hit in All Might's direction. The smoke filled the screen yet again and cleared to show the villain's arm growing in size, just like All Might's right arm had done, but this time it was bigger.

My eyes widened in shock, as did the others in the room.

Sweat beaded down the side of my face as the villain leapt forward, readying his muscular arm, just as All Might did, both sparkling with light, both completely different in the power and colour they exhumed. One represented peace and heroism, the other, destruction and villainy.

And in a rush of vapour and sheer power, they collided.

All Might held his own and for a second I believed it would end then and there. But that thought was naive and completely off-kilter.

He was pushed- no, forced back, heels digging into the ground as both fought for the higher ground.

I kept repeating the words that had previously left my mouth in loud barks.

Come on All Might.

He landed an uppercut but it didn't stick.

Come on All Might!

This time, power shone from his beaten and bloodied form. His punch landed head-on into the villain's fleshy mound of a face, the sheer force sending waves in all directions, pushing away the camera that was feeding directly to the TV in front of me.

And there was silence.

I held my breath.

As did the millions of people watching the fight, wherever they may be.

A raised fist.

That was all it took for the world to let out a collective sigh of relief.

"...he's won..."

The tears now fell freely from my eyes in a silent waterfall of emotion.

"All Might's won."
