"Y/n it's not going to work."

"Yes. It. Is." I said through gritted teeth.

"How many times have you made us try?"

"Not enough."

"More than enough you idiot. I'm tired, at least let me catch my breath."

As much as I didn't want to admit it, Kitsu was right. This was tiring and we seemed to be getting nowhere, no matter how many times we tried.

"Fine," I grumbled, sitting cross-legged opposite her, my fingers fiddling with the buttons on my belt.

A silence fell upon us, an awkward and uncomfortable one.

"So... how are you?"

"What?" I looked up at my sister, completely and utterly confused.

"I'm trying to make conversation."

"You, conversation with... me...?"

Kitsu rolled her eyes, "yes you."

"... I'm fine."

"Well, that's a lie."

"You want me to be completely honest? I'm tired, stressed and just about one more try away from dissolving into a puddle of tears. So yeah, I'm doing fine."

"You and I have two very different ideas of fine."

"Just reinforces how different we are."

"That's another lie."

I stared at her, "I'm sorry, what? You don't see me taking your child away from you, wiping your memories of them and attempting murder."

"Who said it was attempted?"

"You've murdered someone?"

"And you have the audacity to say we're not that different." I shook my head.

"Oh come on big sis, we both have the same deep-seated hatred for each other."

"... that's true."

"Childhood trauma."

"Well, yours is more like middle-aged trauma."

She deadpanned, "And whose fault is that?"

"I'm sorry," mumbling, I looked down at my hands.

"Too late for that big-sis." The handcuffs on her wrists clanked together as she shuffled into a more comfortable position. "We both stole part of each other's lives."

"At least I didn't mean to."

"Oh and that changes the fact that I look like a woman in her late 50's when I'm actually 21?"

"There's not a day that goes by where I don't regret what happened that night Kitsu."

"I... get it, I guess." She shrugged, laughing bitterly, "you were 5, you'd just been shot, what better excuse to lose control of your quirk?"

"As much as I hate what you did I... I understand you were angry with me. That doesn't excuse what you did though, what you did, it- it broke me Kitsu. And I do get it, I get that you were angry, but still, you know exactly what you were doing, you knew how much pain it would cause me."

"I was bitter, I still am. I don't think I'll ever not be... and in all honesty, I don't regret it."

"Lovely."

"I never said I was going to apologise."

"I wasn't expecting you to, I just thought you'd show a slight bit more remorse."

"You should know by now, I'm not that kind of person. But for what it's worth, I'm... sorry."

I looked at her in surprise, not expecting her to say those words.

"What? I'm not saying that again."

"I know you're not."

"Look, we both know how this ends, when we manage to get out of here, I get taken away in yet another pair of cuffs and you go back to your life. Simple."

"It doesn't have to be that black and white-"

She sighed, "Don't play the kind hero now, I know that's what you want, I'm not stupid."

"You don't know what I want."

"Fine, humour me then big-sis, what do you want."

"I've lost family before, no thanks to you granted, but I don't want to do that again. I don't want to... lose you? I guess. I know this happened because of me and..."

"You want to salvage the relationship?" Kitsu cocked her head to the side.

"Not like there was much relationship there to salvage in the first place, but... yes?"

"I... Well, I don't think I would be opposed to having a genuine conversation with you that isn't about killing each other or stealing things from each other."

I smiled, slightly taken aback by the fact that she wasn't against the idea of us talking.

Part of me would always hate her for what she did, there's no doubt about it, but part of her would always hate me for stealing half of her life, in that way we were even.

"So, promise to not kill each other?" I asked.

"That's tough big sis."

I scoffed.

"Fine, I can't kill you behind bars anyways... Promise to visit me?"

It was quiet, she had muttered it under her breath on purpose, but I had heard it.

"Promise."
