A/n this chapter includes home invasion and violence.

---

My head raced as I searched for something. I didn't know what but I knew it was important.

"Y/n!"

I spun around.

"Mum?"

"What are you doing? We need to go."

"But I don't want to go."

She grabbed my hand and I whined I protest, but there was no way I was stopping her. I was a small child with no chance of freeing myself from her grip.

"No mummy I need to get Yoko!" I shouted.

She sighed and tried to smile, "okay where is she?"

I pointed under my bed to a pair of green eyes.

My mum leaned down next to the bed and started to call Yoko who completely ignored her.

"I think she wants to stay here y/n. I promise when we leave we can get another cat?" It wasn't a statement it sounded more like a plea, but of course, I didn't notice.

I whimpered and looked back at the cat.

"Come on baby, please?" My mum looked at me, her eyes full of tears, but I still didn't notice.

"Yoko? Come here, Yoko." I got down and called for my cat, who slowly crawled out. I pulled him into my arms and he didn't protest, he just nuzzled into my arms. "Okay, we can go now." I smiled back up at my mum, but she wasn't there anymore.

"Mummy?" I called out. "Mummy!"

And suddenly I was 25 again, still standing in my childhood bedroom, Yoko still in my arms, my mum still gone.

"Mum?" My voice sounded older, but still just as small as that day.

I ran out the door into the living room.

"Dad?"

"Sweetheart, look at you! You're so grown up." He smiled, holding an arm around my mum who too smiled at me.

"W-what?" I stuttered, I could feel my eyes begin to brim with tears.

"I knew you'd become a hero." My mum walked over to me and hugged me into her chest, Yoko purred in response.

I began to sob.

"I'm so sorry. It's all my fault." I stared at the ground.

"No. No, it's not. You tried to help." My dad had a sad smile on his face.

"But I didn't help!"

"You did. We're still here, everything's fine."

As if upon hearing that the universe decided to disagree.

I shrunk and looked up at my parents, Yoko was just a kitten.

"Mummy?"

"It's going to be okay."

BANG.

"Daddy?"

"Lock yourself in the bathroom and don't come out until the police arrive." My dad looked at my mum who just shook her head.

"Please."

The door smashed open and three faceless figures burst into the room.

"Where's the kid?"

They weren't talking about me. Who were they talking about? They grabbed my mum and pulled her towards them.

"No!" My dad cried.

"Mummy!"

"Tell us where the kid is or we'll kill her." The man placed a gun against my mum's head.

"He'll never tell you!" My mum screamed.

"What about her then." Another gun was then pointed toward me and I froze. I didn't know what it was but from my dad's reaction. It wasn't good.

"Please, she has nothing to do with this." My mum pleaded.

"Well, now she does. Where's the kid!"

No one said anything and the silence was interrupted by a loud shot.

I screamed and fell backwards, the sheer force pushing me onto the sofa.

"NO!" Both my parents screamed.

My dad tried to run to me but a figure held him back.

"YOU'RE A MONSTER!" My mum cried.

The sounds became muffled and there was a ringing in my ears.

I could feel something building inside of me. I couldn't tell whether it was the pain or adrenaline.

Little did I know it was something completely different.

I felt it rise in me, like a wave about to crash.

I screamed and darkness surrounded me. It reached toward the figures, but I couldn't fully control it and I felt my parents struggle under the blanket of darkness.

I was falling.
