Ring !

Cherry opened the door. There, she saw the young, pink-haired boy, with his big'ol yellow eyes. She smiled widely at him.

"Sup, Gummy !" she jumped excitedly. "Ready for our weekly spree of paint balls ?"

"Yup ! All here for ya !" he could come inside now she invited him. "Hello, Miss Cherry Blossom."

"Aw, good morning Gumball ! Are you going to play with Cherry today ?"

"Yup !" Cherry smiled widely. "We're going to prepare for the paintball arena !"

"Alright, sweeties, just be careful with the paint !"

"We will..." Gumball chuckled nervously, as he and Cherry would be dragged downstairs, to the basement. Cherry switched the lights, and there came light, exposing the machine gun they've been working on over weeks. It was now time to finalize it.

"See our big baby ! It's here, all intact, and ready to explode !"

"Yeah ! I can't wait."

"Let's see again what we need. I have the empty bombs here, all we need now is a pinch of red powder," Gumball handed it to her, "the little piece of gum... and lastly... the paint !"

"Alright ! Let me see if I-" Gumball sorted his backbag and burried his hand in it. He scurried his fingers onto every corner, even eyes the inside pocket with care. One more time. And his entire body now trembled. He broke a sweat as he turned to Cherry that was busy composing the explosive to their bombs.
"Um... Cherry ? Is it really important to add paint in those bombs ?"

"It wouldn't be paintbombs, otherwise !"

"You're probably right..." he paused. "Can't it wait tomorrow, though ?"

"Why !! We have to go, before it's too late !"

"I know, but still ! Can't we say that, eventually, somehow, today... we can skip it...?"

"Gumball, I'm starting to worry," Cherry tapped her foot on the floor.

"You don't have to ! But let's imagine, that for example, we... forget the paint-" on these last words, Cherry jumped from her spot and screamed.

"Gumball !!! Don't tell me !!!"

"... Yes."

"I can't believe it ! You had ONE thing to do !! Our plan is ruined !" her voice shrilled as she sighed exasperately and walked away.

"C-Cherry... wait !" he hurried to her. "I'm sorry, okay ? You see, I forgot. I needed to do something yesterday night, and I totally forgot when I woke up-"

"I don't care what you say !! Our project is ruined -- Let me go !" she yelped as she felt his hand holding on her arms.

"Stay, please. There is no need to get mad over this little detail," Gumball told her, slowly degrading.

"We were this close to make it ! We invested our time and energy into this paintbombs thrower, we can't stop now !"

"This is why I need you to please calm down, we're not going further by arguing-"

"And why are you still here, huh ?!"

"Cherry, please-"

"Why are you not moving !! Go and find some paint, now !"

"I LOVE YOU, DAMMIT !"

His words slipped like butter on bread. Unexpected, yet they appeared. When he happened to realize what he said, it was under a second, Gumball shrieked and clapped hands against his mouth. His eyes widen under the pressure, pressure of saying such stupid words at the wrong time. Why did he have to say it ? Right now ? This all was nonesense.

Cherry looked at him, bewildered. What did that mean ? Why was he saying this, right now ? When she was in such a hurry ? Did he just say he... loved her ?
She blinked, and blushed. Her cheeks felt warmer, but she didn't dare saying anything against it.

None of them dared speaking.

A noise came errupting to their ears. It was Cherry Blossom, walking to them with a plate full of sandwiches.

"Anyone wants some ?" she asked them. But by the tense growing in the atmosphere, she blinked then asked, concerningly : "Um... is everything alright ?"

"Yes," her younger sister replied. "I just need some time alone."

"... Thanks for the sandwiches, Miss," Gumball sighed as he picked one, and Cherry walked away.

Cherry rubbed her chin in a musing. It looked like the issue of the paintbombs thrower wasn't much of a problem now. She was now focussed on Gumball's words, as she spent time outside. To calm herself down. She blushed again. Was he... serious when he said that ? Or was it just to make sure he would calm her down ? Like some sort of joke ? Bad, bad joke. She sighed. She didn't know anymore... footsteps.

She turned around. She recognized Gumball, holding two sandwiches in his hands. Her expression seemed to soften. Both looked at each other, before he said :

"Hey. Can I sit down ?"

"... Sure," she invited him next to her.

"Thanks," he walked then sat down. He handed her a sandwich. "Want one ?"

"Thank you," she held it and took a bite. Nothing else happened for a good while, where Gumball looked at her.

"S-So... um, what now ?"

"Gumball," she suddenly said. "Can I ask you something ?"

"Yes ?"

"Did you mean it, when you said that you loved me ?"

The pink-haired boy suddenly blushed again. Was it perhaps, an opportunity here ? The opportunity to tell her all he had in his heart, for a couple of years, now ? After all these times they would be together, going at some places, crafting weapons with paint, bombs, many colorful pigaments. His heart then raced, in his chest.

"Be honest, please," her voice was the one to cut him in his thoughts.

"Cherry, I... I meant it, yes," he grouped his knees to his chest. "I've been meaning to tell you, for months. But I never got the guts to tell you. That... slipped all of the sudden ! But these words... these three, simple words... they have been hidden for too long, and I feel like they needed to be sorted out. So, I will pull them again, one more time, to express my intention," he now faced her, holding on her hand. "Cherry. I love you."

The white-haired girl blushed again. It felt like her heart fluttered, turning into butterflies and flying inside her chest. It was such a reliving feeling... so he wasn't finding her annoying, after all. She smiled slightly, then addressed him :

"I love you too, Gumball."

Now, that was a marvel. He came closer to her, and both hugged, as both a meaning of reconcilement, and the beginning of a new engagement they made to themselves. They would now be partners in crime, crafters, and now, they were dating. Both felt like some sort of weight got out of their backs, and they were laughing.

"Ah, and... for the paintbombs-"

"Forget it," she told him with a reassuring smile. "We will be continuating it tomorrow."
