I remember.
I remember the time I had to capture the infamous criminal, Phantom Bleu. It was about two months ago. Case was that they stole that jewel at the Memory Museum. I also was accompanied by Walnut, my daughter. This sweet little champion. She always knows where to go and what clues to get. She's quite the clever detective. Unlike any other detective, she doesn't just search clues. She also investigates them and even interviews them. Needless to say that in this case, she was also breaking the ace.
We were both wandering around the halls of the empty museum, at night, looking for some pieces of evidence. There, at the crime scene, we saw broken glass spread everywhere. The pedestal in which the jewel was supposed to be was spotless, its worshipped item missing. I was looking at the pedestal, my mind running around, while it was Walnut's feet that made their way all around the room.
They must have stolen it at night, like now, I thought to myself, for nobody reckons seeing any trace of the robber till now... what gets me peculiar is how they managed to make guards unsuspicious about a single thing.
I rubbed my chin. This made no absolute sense to me. They would be able to steal a jewel without anybody noticing ?
"Well. Got any clues there, Walnut ?" I asked her, as I saw her bent down, her magnifying glass at hand.
"Not yet," she said, dumbfounded. "This is definitely strange. There must be something, somewhere !"
"It's okay, take your time," it was getting late, after all, and I didn't want my little walnut to tire herself like she would usually do. I was smiling down at her, then looked down at the floor. Something ticked me about the way the floor was made... I kneeled down to it and passed a hand on it. Then, I scratched another bit of the red carpet, further away.
"... Walnut, could you investigate the tapestry, please ? I have a peculiar feeling about it."
"Oh ?"
Walnut's curious glance traveled from one end of the room to the other. She bent down. I indicated to her the square inch I suspected. She nodded, then reached her hand to it. At first, she told me that it was... ruggy... and when she posed her hand on another place down the carpet, she also felt the difference. There were two different pieces of tapestry on the same floor. Walnut quickly fidgeted her hands and quickly found the trick. I held on a corner, then ripped the fake fabric apart. There was the smoother version of the red carpet, only covered with footsteps that were directed towards the pedestal. Walnut shuddered.
"B-But... how are they even able to do that !!!!"
"They are the cleverest robber I've ever known-" the lights suddenly switched off. The darkness suddenly revealed signs on the floor. Other footsteps... with neon printing ? As eerie as it was, I prefered keeping Walnut behind me, the time I inspected them. They were leading to a wall...!
"STAY BACK !"
I suddenly shouted, now turning around and wrapping arms around Walnut - who yelped and dropped her magnifying glass.
