He saw her before she saw him.

It was a cold, rainy day, and of all things. She had forgotten her umbrella.

Hunkered down in the bus shelter, indifferent to the cold as she stared. She was lost in thought staring out at the sheets of rain pouring down beyond the safety of the shelter.

Her black dress hugging her body, hair sticking to her forehead as her face lacked a look of concern.

Like a child, she sat expertly balanced on the heels of her black pumps; disregarding the chair behind her that was intended for purposes like these.

When the man raised his head, the sky was dull, and boring. Hanging like low moody curtains, almost as if the clouds had forgotten to separate on their way down. The cuffs of his suit were wet, but it was nothing compared to the women he stood beside.

He closed his umbrella giving it a good shake before he shifted into his usual waiting position.

7 o clock.

First he would take the bus to the train station, get off and catch the 8 o'clock train. To which would take him to his 9-5 job, and then he'd buy dinner on his way back home. He'd watch tv or read a book, then go to bed at 8.

Sometimes he'd stay at the office late or the convenience store would be out of microwaveable ramen, but that was fine.

Things were always the same.

Just like it always was, it always would be.

He didn't mind.

"Do you think we'll ever run out of water"

He blinked.

He wasn't sure if he had imagined it, or if the women had just spoke. They were the only people standing under the cover. She was still staring out into the wispy fog, her breath leaving in frosty puffs.

Besides the occasional car that coasted by, they were alone.

"With all this rain,, It's like we'll never run out, but don't you think there's only so much to go around"

When he looked back down she was staring right up at him. He was startled but he didn't show, it, only shrugging and turning back to the gloomy scenery.

"It's almost New year"

He watched her from the corner of his eye as she rose to her feet, smoothing down her skirt as the bus approached. It lumbered through the fog slowly like a moored ship.

"What's your wish"

He finally turned his head, really meeting her gaze now. She studied him, his blonde hair, with his matching bow tie just as stiff.
