OC - Lauren
-----
It was no secret when Chris had asked her out, within a week it had spread across the small and nosy town. Even the subtle ribbings from the boys, namely Teddy hadn't gotten to him. Chris didn’t care if he was looked at funny, he was determined to give his crush a good first date no matter what. Despite Chris's independent nature, the boys had thrown around some ideas, some goofy and some downright genius. Chris couldn't help but like Gordie's ideas and then Vern had surprised them all by mentioning the drive in theatre on the outskirts. Apparently it was also close by the well known make out point, a little tid bit that Teddy couldn’t help but nudge him towards with a wink.
“No way man.” Chris shook his head with a dismissive laugh but the thought was there but he knew there was no way Lauren would be ready for that just yet. Besides the last thing he needed was a possible run in with unruly teens who also knew of the infamous point.
“What? She likes you too doesn’t she?” Teddy's glasses almost fell from his face and he pushed them back up as he leaned forward.
“Well I’d hope so.”
“She does, alright. Overheard Sally in the corner shop.” The very Sally who Lauren was almsot always with whenever he would see her in town.
“Really? What did she say?” Chris hid his enthusiasm badly as he stubbed out the burning bud into his empty coke can. Whatever he hears, it had to be good and he wanted to hear it.
“Oh nothing.” Gordie teased, the last word stretching as his voice went higher. There wasn't enough chances to tease the chambers kid so when the occasion did roll round...
“Oh come on Lachance, no holding out.”
Gordie held his hands up but the smile remained- like he knew something Chris desperately wanted to know.
“Heard that Lauren wouldn’t stop talking about you.” He relented, spilling the beans.
“You lying?” This was big. Too big to make up and they knew it.
“Cross my heart, man.” He was reassured.
Chris couldn’t help but be happy about that. Any doubt he came in with had all but dissipated. It was times like this be appreciated his friends all the more and it was although he was not going to mention any of what they said to Lauren, he was not going to mention it to her. It was a shock enough that she agreed by talk of his no good last name alone and the last thing he wanted to do was rush her by bringing up what was said.
Teddy laughed obnoxiously, slapping his hand on the wooden table, narrowly avoiding his open can of coke- Dangerously close to the other half of the set of cards they had been using.
“Would you look at that? Chambers got a good chance at this!” It was supposed to be a drag on him but Teddy didn't usually mean any of his taunts unless he was screaming them or having to be held back.
“Shut up,”
It seemed Chris had forgotten about the retaliation and the three exchanged glances as if saying, ‘ready?’ Then taking a deep breath they began cheering, “I don't shut up. I grow up. And when I look at you, I throw up!” Before making faux gagging noises.
