5 - Ace Headcannons - Emotions

A/N - okay so these can be thought of as headcannons but they are really how I interpret Ace dealing with different emotions and just random little things I picked up in the movie.

How he shows grief:

- Doesn't really show it especially in public and he is more of an asshole to his gang and those he harasses.
- It gets wild but if his S/O is there then being there is enough to calm him down just a smidge. I see it that the S/O is likely to be the only one Ace would ever feel comfortable around nevermind listen to. Ace isn't shown with ladies in the movie but from the sleazy greasy feel he has I can bet he might try and put on a classy for whomever he has with him and might back off for other reasons and deal with it later, additionally the problem might be enough for him to forget about the S/O completely.
- Another way I see him reacting is becoming more indifferent along with doing his usual business. Ace strikes me as someone who doesnt give a shit for showing how he feels so much. It would take an S/O with a keen eye and lots of ego inducing sweet talk to get him to show what's wrong or for Ace to potentially lose his S/O for him to stubbornly tall about what's making him like this.
- Ace wouldn't outright cry but shows his grief in destructive tendencies, one too many beers or behaving more wildly.
- If he is cuddling with his S/O and he thinks they're asleep, he might stare off and tear up just a little once whatever is bothering him trully sets in and he thinks he is alone. Although his eyes may get a little glassy, it wouldn't be full blown tears and he would just rub them away before they can drop. Ace is not much if at all a crier so this would be his way of trying to keep himself together while addressing the issue.
-The fact that he knows his S/O cares enough about him to stick around with his baggage helps him try and get over it for them.

How he shows happiness:

- All Ace has known is a lack of consequences, people are scared of him and think slowly of him which he doesn't really care for atleast outside.
- From the Ray Bowers incident he was going to grab credit for finding, I think this was because he wants to be acknowledged by radio/newspapers for something other than being a delinquent but the safest bet is that he wants reward money or bragging points. He threatened the boys for standing imthe wya of getting something he sees as positive for himself.
- Ace is only on something if he gets something out of it, whether that's money, a good time (the gang talking about connie Palermo like no big deal) or just the satisfaction of power (bullying the four protagonists and vandalising property.
- Now I reckon when he expects to get what he wants but of the bloom like a romantic interest that is clearly not just some broad he wanted to sleep with? He wouldn't be too overly romantic but rather it would be a slow ride. Of course with dating Ace Merril means there will be talk in town and even people questioning why a girl is dating him, depending on how good or bad her reputation is.
- Ace is definately the type to put his arms around a girl shoulders or waist instead of holding her hand. His reputation drives this more, not wanting to look soft, maintain "power" in his head by taking lead of the relationship and of course bragging rights but that's not to say he won't kiss in public or get a little handsy because his girlfriend would factor into his pda.
- Ace most likely wouldn't tell her this but he gradually started doing something small just for her, like kissing her cheek or using less vulgar language around her.
- Ace doesn't want to change, he enjoys terrorizing people, and so he wouldn't but he might start doing small things that aren't too drastic if it means keeping the one person he wants to keep around in his life.
- I headcannon that his tough exterior falls down just a little when hea alone with his s/o. Not too much as in turns into a lovely dovey gush of emotions but rather us more sweet on her and uses language he wouldn't around the gang and public, please being one of them.
- From the movie, we don't really see him express true happiness in facial features nor voicing it. The movie didnt show how John ace merril is without thr gang and by himself, nor backstory and no daily routine aside from from fixing cars, drinking beer, playing chicken whilst racing and of course "Mail box Baseball." It's clear he likes them/ passes time with them.
