Chapter 10: Set up of things to come

Akuma had been given his latest mission... hunt down Jason Lee Scott and his growing number of displaced former Ranger allies. Akuma smiled, his excitement was hard to hide. He loved a good challenge... and he wouldn't be stuck in a stupid wizard outfit to hide his identity this time! He groaned as he remembered having to transform into that wizard form... Kaizo claimed that his standard energy attacks would have been too memorable... and he wasn't there to defeat Doggie Cruger... only stall for time... didn't mean he had to like it. He wanted to defeat Cruger... but something about Kaizo's plan involved keeping him alive... maybe because Kaizo wanted to kill Cruger himself. Whatever reason there was to hold back against Cruger... an opponent who Akuma knew could probably challenge him in one on one combat was unknown to him, but he dared not challenge Kaizo's orders... not since Kaizo reported directly to their true leader, who Kaizo often got orders from. Since Akuma never knew which orders came from Kaizo and which one came from their real leader, Akuma would never risk disobeying any order, lest the real master arrive and end his life for insubordination. Akuma got his mind off his previous battle with Cruger and the Silver Guardians... now he focused on Jason Lee Scott and his new team of former Rangers.

Meanwhile:
Jason was training in a simulation... he was fighting against a simulation of himself. Jason was morphed as the Red Omega Ranger (not to be confused with the SPD Omega Ranger), and the simulation was "morphed" into the Mighty Morphin' Red Ranger. Both of the Jasons were evenly matched when suddenly the ship's AI started to speak.
"There is a transmission wanting to be patched through."

Jason was curious about who was sending his ship a transmission and he pressed a button on his wrist, ending the simulation. Still morphed, Jason walked over to a computer in the ship.

"Put it through." Jason said. On the screen was a morphed Omega Yellow Ranger.

"Trini. How did the mission go?" Jason asked as he powered down. Trini did the same with a smile on her face.

"It went well. We were right about these War Hawks reconquering worlds that the Troobians previously had under their control." Trini replied. Jason sighed.

"Where is Space Patrol Delta in all of this. Shouldn't they be stopping this kind of thing from happening again?" Jason asked.

"I just had contact with Supreme Commander Birdie... they are stretched thin... these War Hawks have been laying low for many years... preparing for this war while none of us even knew this could even happen. This conflict for the morphing grid dates back before Zordon's time, so cut them some slack." Trini pointed out. Jason nodded. She did have a point.

"So... was there anyone in Zeltei 4 that was notable like the rumors had told us?" Jason asked. Carter Grayson walked by and he looked at Jason in confusion... what rumors? What was Zeltei 5?

"Yes. Here they were holding Casey Rhodes... he's with me now. I have used the morpher recharger to recharge his Solar Morpher and he agreed to join us in our search for the Master Morpher. If it's on Earth, Tommy should be able to find it... since he's building his own network of former Rangers... and if it's in space... we'll be able to find it. I just know it." Trini assured Jason. Then Trini looked like she had just remembered something important.

"Have you heard from Zack recently?" Trini asked. Jason shook his head.

"No. That's what concerns me... I thought he'd be done by now. Something tells me he's in some kind of trouble... I was just training a few minutes ago to prepare myself... but after you get back to the main ship, I think we'll have to retrace Zack's steps and find him." Jason told Trini. Trini nodded.

"Casey and I will be there shortly." Trini told Jason before the transmission cut off. That's when Carter made himself known to Jason.

"It's clear I'm out of the loop about a lot of things. You mind telling me what's going on?" Carter asked curiously. Jason nodded.
