"Do you like Sammy?" Dean asked as he started the engine and pulled the car out of the motel parking space.
"He's nice." You smiled. "I just wish he could've come with us."
"Yeah, well... He had to help dad with something." Dean answered. "I bet he would've loved to come with." That wasn't entirely true, what Dean said. Neither dad nor Dean had yet told Sam about your position on the wedding. Both of them knew how Sam would revolt and try to get you out of this, so they devised a plan to play along and not tell Sam all of the details just yet. And even though Sam would've loved to come with you and get to know you more, he thought he ought to leave you and Dean alone to yourselves.
"I suppose." You said, looking out of the window. Being outside so much was still new to you. This was going to be your second time going to a mall, the first time being four years ago when you sneaked out of your place when your dad was passed out from drinking too much.
"Anyway, I was hoping to talk to you about something." He said, keeping his eyes on the road. "A lot of people are aware of us getting married, and a few sentiments are joined to it as well. So no matter what, we are going to get married." He said, making you look at him.
"So I've been told." You said, not sure what he was trying to imply.
"And I hope you'll respect those sentiments," Dean said. From as much you've gotten to know him, this was the most formal language he'd ever used. It was rather unsettling, really.
"Dean, I'm not sure if I-"
"I mean not everyone has to know how cold-hearted you are." He said almost too quickly, as if he spoke before he could think it through. He took a deep breath and sighed before he continued. "If this marriage is to be..." He paused for a bit, seeming to choose his words carefully this time. "If this marriage is to be an act, then you'll have to play your part well. That's all I'm saying. In front of everybody else. Not one soul other than dad and I have to know."
"Yes, of course, but-"
"That means Sam stays out of it as well." He added and realisations dawned upon you pretty quickly. You weren't getting a new life for free, of course. This wasn't going to be just as easy. You'll have to pay the price.
"But he lives with us, Dean. That means I'll have to always pretend. That means I'll have to live a lie for the most part of the day, every day." You revolted.
Dean pulled into the mall's parking, giving you a sharp look. He parked the car and turned the engine off as he looked at you. "You don't really have a choice here, Y/N." His tone was clearly aggravated but his physiognomy gave nothing, it almost seemed like the calm before a storm.
You looked down, suddenly not feeling as excited to go to the mall anymore. All you wanted to do was go back to your dad's shitty place but you knew how distant of a dream that was now. Come to think of it, anywhere but here would do. You looked up and locked eyes with Dean when he took your hand in his.
"Cheer up. You'll get used to it." Dean said. Being in the car with Dean and him looking at you like that reminded you of when you were in that diner's parking lot with him. How he had kissed you. You immediately pulled back your hands, nodded to what he had said and got out.
Dean sighed and got out as well. He locked the car and walked with you to the mall. Your hands brushed past each other a couple of times but you didn't see anything to it and walked along. But once you were in the mall, Dean took your right hand in his left. You looked up at him and pulled back.
Dean shot you a glare, which he obviously didn't intend to as he quickly shifted his expressions and walked as if nothing had happened.
He took you to the clothing store first and stayed by your side as you looked around and picked things to try. You insisted that he look something for himself as well, mostly to be alone, but he said he didn't need anything.
