When Dean came back with breakfast, you were still sitting on the table with the coffee in your hands. You looked at him as we walked in and saw you. Your eyes met for a couple of seconds before you looked down. All kinds of thoughts went through your head. Dean was the reason you were being held here, but then again Dean was just as much stuck in this relationship as you, and then there was this part of your mind that blamed it all on your dad. You're the one at fault here, how long are you going to keep on blaming it on others? a voice in your mind said. It was something you dad had kept saying, blaming your mom's death, your family's bankruptcy and his failed missions on you. You took a deep breath and shoved it away.
"You okay?" Dean asked as he set the takeaway bags down. "I got us pancakes." he looked genuinely worried.
You just stared at him, not knowing what to do or say. Were you supposed to tell him that his dad had just threatened you with a gun? If Dean really liked you, he'd help you, wouldn't he? But what if he already knew about it? What if he had been the one to suggest it to John? Even if he hadn't, what guarantee did you have that he would pick some guy who doesn't even bat an eye towards him over his dad?
"Dean-" you started, not really knowing what you were supposed to say. You thought of not telling him anything when you saw Sam and John walking through the motel hallway towards your room's door. Dean frowned at you, he had deduced something was wrong.
"Are you not feeling-" Dean was cut off mid-sentence when you got up suddenly and grabbed him by the hem of his shirt and pulled him down, pushing your lips against his. Dean's eyes widened but you deepened the kiss. You could feel his smirk through your lips just then as he adjusted and wrapped his hands around your waist and kissed you back. "Now that's what I call a friggin kiss," Dean said into the kiss as he pulled you closer.
"Woah, should we come later?" Sam said as he walked into the room with John. He had covered his eyes but you saw his smile and that's what broke your heart. Sam was happy for his brother. You looked at Dean as he pulled back and chuckled seeing Sam come in and immediately straighten up when he saw John.
Dean rubbed the back of his neck, "We didn't hear you come in." He said. Sam finally opened his eyes and you pretended to blush. Sam gave you an apologetic smile so you knew it had worked, you looked cautiously towards John and saw him give an acknowledging nod. But Dean seemed to have seen it too. He traced John's line of sight towards you and when you looked at him, you saw the colour and his smile fade from his face. He had believed it too, and you saw him realize that it was an act as he clenched his teeth and turned to take the breakfast out of the bags to hide his face from Sam.
"We're sorry." Sam chuckled as he walked towards you, "We really should've knocked." He said.
Kinda glad you didn't, you thought as you smiled back at him. "No no, it's fine." You said. "How do you like the book?"
"Oh, it's amazing," Sam said. "I figured I didn't remember much so I've started from the beginning. I love it so far."
"Alright, enough of that book talk. It's time for pancakes now." Dean said with a grin on his face as he put down your plates on the table and you wondered just how good Dean was at hiding his feelings. Everyone sat down.
"Dean's serving breakfast in plates? You really are special, Y/N." Sam laughed.
"Shut it and stuff it, bitch." Dean said as he sat down too.
"Jerk," Sam said with a grin.
"Alright, alright. Enough." John said and he had a smile on his face too. You looked at them from where you sat, all smiling together and you felt your appetite disappear. Just one kiss had brought all this, and even so you saw them, this family on a breakfast table chatting away just like another. This was certainly a better place to be than back home with your dad, but you felt so out of place. As if you were an intruder. An intruder on a death row, a thought bubbled in your mind as the picture of John's gun came back to your conscience.
Thankfully, John spoke up and brought you back from your thoughts, "You feel alright to hit the road, Y/N? We've got a few families to visit. Just some friends who want to meet you."
"Oh." You said and nodded, "Yes, sure."
"Alright then, get ready after breakfast. Yeah?" John said and everyone on the table except him ndoded. The rest of the conversation was mostly business-related and a couple of possible cases that Sam had read about. When everyone was done with their breakfast, you helped Dean to take the dishes away as Sam and John went back to their room to get ready.
"Smart move." Dean said as he put the dishes in the sink, his teeth clenched. He didn't look at you but he sure did look disturbed. You didn't say anything and went to the bathroom to take a shower. You got out, got dressed and decided to pack the bags while Dean was showering.
"Did I tell you to pack my bag?" Dean said as he got out and saw his bag. He only had a towel wrapped around his waist. You almost jumped, startled, and turned to him. You were about to apologize when he sighed and shook his head, "Nevermind." he said and grabbed his clothes to get dressed. Once you were done, you took Dean's hand and met Sam and John outside. Sam took shot gun this time as John drove. You sat in the back with Dean. John had music on so there was more humming along than conversation, which you were very thankful for.
You didn't know when you fell asleep. You woke up briefly when the car stopped at the gas station but Dean only patted your arm, "It's alright, go back to sleep." he said. You realized you had your head on his shoulder and he had his arm around you, holding close to him. The front of the car was empty as John and Sam had gone to the store. But sleep came back soon enough and you slept most of your way through that way.
