The Historian reached under the TARDIS panel. The fact they had just left Adam behind with a massive hole in his forehead didnt bother her. She didnt care.
She knew it wouldn't have happened if Henry was still here. She put her sonic down and leant against a metal bar, thinking about that daft human. They had been on many adventures together. They had met the Slitheen, they had met the living plastic. They had a run in with an ood colony, and some vampire-like creatures on a far off planet she hardly knew the name of. The whole time she felt something was missing, and she never knew what... until she met the Doctor again. The whole idea of her and him... it terrified her. It went so wrong then last time, she never wanted anything to be that tragic or heartbreaking again.
But she missed him. Mostly, just the conversation. When they were young and at the academy, they could talk for hours and hours about pointless things. About their classes, about their friends, about politics, music, science... the furture. What future did they have now?
She shook her head, wiping her hands down on a black jumper she had put on to work on the circuits. Maintaining a TARDIS was hard enough let alone all these... intrustive thoughts circulating around her head.
"Right! That's Rose asleep! We have time to catch the port in Andromeda, somewhere to park while we... Historian...? Historian?"
She peered over the metal bars and pulled herself up onto the main level. "I've already started." She called.
"Your head still looks nasty."
"Thank you." She replied as she rolled her eyes. "You know, in 900 years I dont think anyone come up to me and stated as plainly as you that my head 'looks nasty'"
"Oi." He huffed "dont twist my words, I do that enough myself."
She laughed and nodded "You really do, Doctor."
He headed over as she ducked underneath the circuits. "Need more copper tubes if you have any doctor, this ones burnt out. Prehaps aluminium bolts? Hopefully stop that panel up there sparking every time we use it... and why do you hit it with a mallet? I could just fix it you know. I wasnt always a biology teacher-"
"You're rambling." He said as he jumped down, handing her the wires. "There. And I like the mallet, it stays. Its fun-"
"Its dangerous. You hit the wrong thing and we are totally dead."
"You have so little faith in me." He grinned.
She smirked slightly and attached the copper wires, replacing the old ones. When she stood back, she noticed he was staring right at her. "What?" She sighed.
"Historian." He warned.
"No." She said as she walked around him, upto the console.
"We said we'd talk about it."
"I don't want to." she said. "Not now."
"Why?" He asked as he took her shoulders in his hands. "We are the very last timelords in existence. We only have each other."
"I know." She glared quietly. "Which is why this is so hard. "Doctor. I am scared. I am petrified. We're living so dangerously, any day could be out last and when i thought you died before... I hated you so much, I really hated you but when I thought you were dead I realised how much I bloody well love you too. And its utter madness you're even here."
"You think I dont feel the same." He said as he let go of her shoulders. "Is this because of Rose? Do you think I have a thing for her?"
"No." The Historian sighed. "Of course not, Rose is just a kid, doctor. I love that sub-terrainian, evolved ape creature like a sister-"
"Then what? You're making this harder than it damn well has to be, you know-"
"It was a disaster last time." The Historian sighed as she sat on the metal bars across from him. "And if it goes wrong this time, we have nowhere to run. We're stuck together. Forever. Literally, that thought is more terrifying than anything in all of time and space. We are stuck together no matter what."
He nodded and leant on it beside her. "I know. But I'd rather be with you regardless. When you came into the lft after seeing that Dalek in Utah, I was so thankful it didnt kill you. I didnt realise how much."
"The kiss was unncessicary." She told him.
"Nice, though."
She slapped his shoulder slightly. "Shut up." she laughed. "Really though, doctor. I cant do it again, not if we're going to end up like before. It's not worth it."
She jumped down and went to walk around him when he took her arm in his hand. "Whay have you missed the most?"
She looked into his blue eyes and sighed slightly with a small smile "I missed talking to you."
"Then that's the answer really." The Doctor told her.
"Is that your official diagnosis, Doctor?" She smirked.
"No." He said as he put a hand on her waist. "But it's a good start."
She looked away and to the TARDIS console. "We cant compromise Rose. We cant put her in any more danger than she has to be in."
He nodded. "Absolutely."
"And we have to be honest with each other."
"I know."
"You're going to agree with everything I say arent you?"
"Most definitely." He grinned.
The Historian rolled her eyes and jumped down into the depths of the TARDIS again. "I still need those bolts, Doctor!" She called.
Moments later, and after a bit of clattering around, he appeared beside her with the bolts. She smiled and took one from his hand. "Thank you." She grinned.
He smiled at her widely as he put an arm around the Historian, peering into the hole she had made in the TARDIS...
