My father tells me to go upstairs. I know this is serious but my father is treating this like someones after us and my mom just gave a very offensive opinion on what to do. It's a different kind of serious. I hear muffled voices downstairs as my parents debate. I ignore the curiosity for a while until it wins me over and I quietly tiptoe towards the stairs.
"Beatrice and Tobias like each other and you knew? Why didn't you tell me?" My father's voice speaks.
"I was going to but at first she wouldn't admit it to me. When she did it was too late." There is silence for a moment.
"When did she tell you then?"
"After the dinner. We were still going to tell you but Beatrice told me not to." My mother says quietly. My father sighs so loud I could hear it even if I was still in my room.
"What a mess.."
"What are you going to do about it, Andrew?"
I hold my breath waiting for my father's answer. Whatever he says will either make things worse or better. Please be better.
"I'll invite him for dinner tomorrow and we'll talk about it then."
I'm glad I came outside my room now. Everything is coming together! Tomorrow we have dinner just like tradition and if Marcus is in a good mood he'll say yes! I run back to my room as quietly as possible and smile at my ceiling. Could anything be more perfect? I can just see my future now. The dinner. Everyone laughing, Marcus saying yes, the wedding, everything is so clear. I can't wait to tell Tobias.

My first day of official work starts today. Today couldn't be a more perfect day. The dinner, first day of work, the first day I actually feel like I understand my life. At first, I had no idea if had done the right thing or not. I wondered if I really belonged here. My Divergence bugged me every night and I couldn't sleep after thinking about what more it could mean. But today I feel okay. It's the day where everything comes together and I have my happily ever after. Just like in the fairytales.
"You look happy today," Christina says, coming from behind me. "Oh the birds are chirping and the sun is shining. What is there to not be happy about?" She looks at me perplexed. "Alright then Cinderella," She laughs. When I scan the grounds again I finally spot him. "Tobias!" I yell and run up to him. I can't exactly hug him or have any visible contact with him since we're at work but I still grab his hand and grin at him. "Hey Tris," He says and smiles at me.
"I missed you, where have you been?" I ask as we walk back over to Christina. No hand-holding. "Getting rid of unwanted fiance's," He says with a wink. I knew it.
"How?"
"Hey, guys! Anyone wanna fill me in on what's going on here?" Christina says.
"I haven't been to work in 4 days. Didn't you notice?" Tobias says and she looks at me.
"That is definitely not why she's smiling so much. Have you met her? She is never in that mood. She looks like the birds dressed her up today and they all sang princess tunes." Christina says crossing her arms and raising her eyebrow
Tobias laughs. "She does, I have no idea why though," He raises his eyebrow at me.
"My father is going to talk to Marcus today. About dinner at my house. For us." I say and he doesn't smile or laugh but I can tell he's still happy.
"That's great. Marcus will probably accept the dinner. If he's in a good mood he'll listen too."
Christina stares at us confused. "Care to fill me in some more?" She says. "Tobias and I might get engaged." All morning I wasn't able to control my smile because I was so sure this dinner would go well. But after saying the word might I finally found control.
