Nationals, 2012

THEY WON.
They actually won

Joe Hart knew that the group of people he got to know this past year was going to be forever remembered as the little club that could. If you told the  16 year old teen with dreads, that he was going to be a part a glee club last year, he wouldn't have believed you.

Even when the MC announced them as first place winners, and the red and white confetti falling over everyone, it still didn't feel real. Even when they came back to McKinley, first place trophy in hand. it still didn't feel real.

Even on that very Friday night, when everyone was invited to Quinn's house for a party, and Joe couldn't escape all the random girls complimenting him and giving him kisses on the cheek, it still felt as if his whole world was flipped upside down.

Joe truly had never been in a house this big before, it was kind of nerve wracking if he was honest. This was nothing like the church parties he attended as a kid. This was way more.... intense.

The fact that this was a house from someone he knew well, was a bit more comforting. And that's what exactly Joe felt for the first couple of seconds before the screams of  "CROWD SURF!" boomed through the walls and a big burly jock was lifted up and was basically being carried over the sea of people to some electronic song that Joe's never heard of before.

He notices a cooler full of non-alcoholic drinks and grabs a Orange Fanta, noticing Sam a bit away, nursing what looks to be like an alcoholic cooler. The blond haired boy notices his friend and waves him over . "Hey man! Crazy party, huh?"

Joe takes a sip of his own drink. "I literally just got here a couple of seconds ago. Is it..." he nods towards the crowd surfing jock from earlier who's now crushing a beer can on his forehead. "Always like this?"

Sam chuckled. "Dude, the party is just getting started! Better get used to it quick if you plan on being here awhile"

"Where's everyone else?"

"Making out, or probably trying to find a hookup"

Joe couldn't help but cringe a bit. Hooking up was definitely something he was warned about to happen at these types of gatherings. Sam noticed the clear discomfort from his friend and patted him on the shoulder. "Quinn and Mercedes are in the kitchen, I think? They could use the hand with serving the snakes and drinks" he pouts with his thumb behind where the kitchen is. "Straight ahead"

Joe gratefully took that leave to the kitchen which was just as busy. The two ladies were taking out cans of soda and fruit juice (which Puck would probably try to mix and spike with alcohol later)  and putting them in one of the coolers that they were filling up with ice

They both gave him a smile when he entered the room. Quinn motioned towards the cooler in the corner. "Mind putting that out in the living room? As you can see, it's not just us, word got around and before we knew it, half of the school is here" she blew her bangs out of her face. "I don't even know if we have enough for everyone"

"Didn't we stock up on emergency soda and snacks down in your basement, the last sleepover?" Mercedes asked. "Like a couple of weeks before Nationals?"

Suddenly, a loud crash could be heard which made Joe jump. Quinn groaned. "Oh great...." Before she leaves, she looks at her friends with big pleading eyes. "Could one of you please go grab the cases of drinks? Two big cases of cans of Coke and Mountain Dew are in the basement"

Joe nodded. "I'll go after putting the cooler in the living room"

Quinn smiles greatly and quickly fled the room, to find the cause of the crash.

Mercedes places her hand on Joe's shoulder, giving him a small chuckle. "Poor girl has been running ragged all day, since 3 pm"

"I thought the original plan was Breadsticks?"

"It was before a rumour was started by a freshman Cheerio. Kitty something..."

Joe nodded and picked up the cooler and dragged it in the middle of the living room. He was about to go find Quinn to ask where the basement was, until he saw Mercedes go down towards a set of stairs, and he immediately followed her a couple of steps away.

Down the stairs was a hallway that was lighting up every step Joe seem to take, creme coloured walls filled with pictures of Quinn and her family lining them.

Quinn really did have a beautiful family. He's so distracted by the photos, he begins hear the faint sound of someone singing and playing piano.

The teenage boy with dreads can't help but grow curious at the who the voice belongs to. The room where it's coming from has the door open just a crack. Now Joe is one to respect one's privacy, but he can't help but have the curiosity gnawing away at him, bit by bit. Every step, the voice grows louder and louder.

"You make me feel, you make me feel, oooh you make me feel like a natural woman...."

When Joe peeks through, quiet as he can get, his eyes widen a bit, when he notices who it is.

A girl around his age, with fair skin and deep brown eyes just like Quinn's. Danielle or Dani was her name.

Quinn's younger sister.

She was in Joe's English class this semester, last period. She seemed to be rather on the quiet side, but whenever the teacher would assign assignments and presentations, she was always so well spoken. Her words flow off the page like deep passionate poetry, which Joe could only call a gift from God. They'd spoken only a handful of times, an "excuse me" or a "hey" every now and again.

In all his time at McKinley, Joe had never seen the girl outside that classroom. She seemed to disappear as soon as the last bell rung and she already had her things with her for the day.

The only way Joe had found out that Danielle was Quinn's sister, when their English teacher had called attendance and also when he had met Quinn and the others the first God Squad meeting. Right before Valentine's Day and the whole thing with Santana and Brittany.

When he mentions Dani, Quinn sadly smiles and tells Joe that she mainly likes to be left alone. "She's so quiet now. We were really close, and then she just woke up one day and just .... changed"

Joe felt for her. He really did. He had young cousins on his mother's side of the family and if any of them suddenly had a change in a negative personality, he'd want to do everything in his power to help them through whatever they were struggling with.

He's so engrossed into the young woman's voice and piano playing, he doesn't realize that she has now suddenly stopped playing and singing abruptly. He quickly turns away from the door, and lets out a quiet breath of relief.

"Who's there?"

Joe quietly steps away as the playing starts up again, going off to find the soda.

Sam meets him at the top of the stairs, when he gets back up. "Dude, what took you so long? Quinn is about to rip her hair out. More people just came piling in".

Joe then noticed there was a lot more students coming in, this time with their own drinks. He suspects alcoholic ones. "Uh, I got lost"

Sam chuckles. "Oh yeah. It's got like five more bedrooms and a pool table and a hot tub...."

Joe lets his friend ramble on about the huge basement, while he goes to help Quinn with the drinks, the blonde girl looking even more stressed then before. "What took you so long??"

With his mind still travelling to the girl singing her heart out at the piano....
