IT NEVER SEEMED TO BE EASY FOR JOE HART in the early weeks of starting at McKinley the previous year. But this year with the seniors finally graduated and gone, the dreadlocked teen could finally start fresh right from September.

He really didn't have an over the top summer like everyone else would. He did keep in touch with Sam Evens and Blaine Anderson for the most part, and made frequent hangouts to Breadstix with the two. He and Quinn had texted a couple of times as the blonde haired girl settled in to her dorm at Yale and was already making friends.

There was still a part of Joe that longed for her. But he knew that deep down, it was never meant to be.  Noah Puckerman was always going to be Quinn's soulmate. Whether either of them knew it or not.

Regardless, Joe felt happy to be back in a place he knew where he could finally belong.

Sam had especially made the transition for the start of the new school year way easier on the younger teen. They had chatted quite a bit last year along with Rory Flanagan, the Irish exchange student that had to leave the States once his visa had expired. If Sam hadn't continued conversing with Joe, well Joe would have definitely been alone this year. Well maybe he'd have gotten close with Sugar Motta, but she was still too eccentric and out there for Joe's tastes (not that he's judging of course) .

By extension, he'd gotten to know Blaine as well. He seemed happy to answer a lot of Joe's curiosities concerning the LGBTQ+ community and made some of his deep rooted biases evaporate within him.

Despite having a decent uneventful summer, Joe still had the day of the party in the back of his mind, picturing Quinn's younger sister  downstairs in the family basement, playing their piano. Belting out Natural Woman. He always had the itch to ask Quinn about it. To see if she knew about her sister's talent. But at the same time, Joe felt that the younger Fabray would not want others to know.

But.... to hide a talent like that, seemed almost illegal.

If it was Joe, he'd want to shout to the heavens above, wanting to thank God for blessing him with such a gift.

But everyone is different. Not everyone is a religious being. Joe learned that very quickly while in Glee Club last year, when Blaine's boyfriend Kurt Hummel came in to a God Squad meeting, distressed about Dave Karofsky's suicide attempt .

That really woke Joe up.

The rest of the week is a blur of new classes and glee club meetings and of course, drama.
There's talk of a "New Rachel" or something. Which Blaine, Brittany, Tina, and new member Wade Adams (Or Unique, Joe can't remember) have attached themselves tightly to, dragging poor Artie Abrams with them to judge their sing off of Call Me Maybe in the auditorium.

And Sugar has apparently been sent away to an all girls boarding school after she tried to sell her dad's collection of vintage cars to some scammer in Milan ... so there's that too.
