"it's beginning to look a lot like christmas.." y/n sang as she cut out paper snowflakes to hang around the ship.
"what is this strange music?" drax questioned as he stepped into the living area.
"it's christmas music, drax."
"what the hell is a christmas?" rocket questioned.
y/n let out a shocked gasp, "you guys don't know what christmas is?"
the rest of the guardians all filed into the room, taking seats around y/n. they all grew interested in the idea of christmas.
"christmas is a holiday that i used to celebrate on earth. it happens only once a year and it is a very special time. friends and family all come together to give gifts and share a feast full of delicious food. a man called santa clause brings children around the world presents in the middle of the night which they open on christmas day." y/n explains to the wide eyed guardians.
"why would a fat guy travel a planet in the night? doesn't he have better things to do?" drax pressed.
y/n chuckled, "santa clause is a myth that parents tell their children to get them excited for the most wonderful time of the year."
y/n's teammates bombarded her with questions about the unknown holiday. sharing this moment with her friends reminded her of the time she spent on earth.
before she was captured, she had a happy family; a mom, dad, and two older brothers. every christmas morning her mom would make a large breakfast while her dad helped y/n and her brothers make a snowman in the front lawn.
the memories flooded her brain, making y/n's emotions change from joyful to gloomy.
"i'll be right back." y/n informed her team who were too busy discussing if santa was a better pilot than rocket.
she walked to the cockpit of the ship, plopped down in the pilots seat, and stared off into space. she didn't realize that peter followed her and sat down beside her.
"what's up, doll face?" peter joked, lightly hitting her arm.
"hey, star boy."
peter took notice of her melancholy state, "what's got you so upset?"
"i miss my family from earth. sometimes i wish i could go back and visit them but they wouldn't recognize me."
y/n sighed and let her head fall in her hands. peter grabbed her hand, pulling her off the seat and into his arms.
"we don't we go visit them someday?" peter suggested.
"peter, i just told you they don't remember me."
peter reached his hand up to wipe away the tears that fell from y/n's eyes, "your old family might not remember you, but you have another family right here. we may not look alike or even come from the same species, but we all love you so much."
y/n looked up at him with a small smile on her face. peter took the chance to place a kiss on her lips. he pulled away as soon as the other guardians ran into the room. they all joined the hug while rocket and groot grabbed onto y/n's legs.
"we like your presence very much, y/n." drax stated.
"you're the sister i've always wanted!" gamora added.
"you're pretty cool, y/n. i never knew a girl could be a better pilot than me!" rocket admitted.
"i am groot!" baby groot chimed as he climbed up y/n's body.
"i love you too, groot."
"see, we're your family now! you can teach us all about the big fat guy santa and other holidays."
"they don't love you as much as i do." peter whispered after he pecked y/n's cheek.
"merry christmas, peter quill."
"merry christmas, my love."
