Chapter 14

Falling.

Spinning.

Plummeting.

I felt like I was cascading in a downward spiral toward the pits of hell. There was nothing I could do. When I hit the ground, my bones should have shattered, but I remained intact.

It should have hurt when I landed. I shouldn't have been able to stand up after that. But here I was.

"Daisy Lynn," a voice called out. I whipped my head around to see who called my name, but I was by myself in this dark pit. It was only me.

"It's not just you. Come here, child," the voice said. Now I could hear the voice's full timbre. It was lustrous and captivating. It was smooth like honey. It had wrapped its hooks around me and was pulling me in.

I didn't know where I was going, but I was going to find that voice. It was so unique. So transformative.

So...powerful.

"Stand right there," the voice said and I obeyed, instantly and willingly. It was like second nature.

"There's so much that you don't know, child. So much that you still need to learn. You are very powerful, Daisy Lynn," it said.

"T-Thank you," I said quietly. I felt on cloud nine, listening to the voice. The compliment it gave me was euphoric. It was like a drug and I needed more.

"Who are you?" I asked softly.

"We can save that for later. Now is the time when I must show you many things. You are very fragile, so you will not be able to handle it all at once. My time with you is very short. I must do this quickly," the voice said.

I decided that the voice had to be a woman. Although there was a level of androgyny, the sheer fullness of the voice made it slightly more feminine than not. Nodding silently to myself in approval of my assessment, I waited for her to continue. It didn't take long before my mind was flooded with images.

The first thing I saw was an image of a girl. Her ebony skin was smooth and flawless as she worked under the sun. Her black hair curled and kinked in a variety of patterns. She was beautiful in an unconventional way. I took a step forward to approach her and stopped when I looked into her eyes. They were are deep, dark forest green and although they shined with kindness, something about them made me hesitate.

Another girl stepped into my field of view and I did a double take. They looked exactly alike, except for the new girl had rich brown eyes that were clouded with scrutiny. Before I could even comprehend the scene enough to ask the questions threatening to come forth, another image was thrust before me.

This time I saw a Native American man. It was the man that Jason had been looking at in his profiles. I took a step back. He was undeniably beautiful. His long hair flowed in the wind and his strong facial structures gave him and air of intimidation. It felt like we were exact opposites - where as there was a calmness and timidness to me, it seemed that he was volatile and aggressive.

When he put his hand up and flames bursted forth, I realized that my thoughts were accurate. We were opposites, but I felt drawn to him just as I had the twins before him. It didn't matter that I control water, and he fire - our ability to control an element is what connected us. Something told me, that I needed to find him. I wasn't sure why, but he was important. I needed to find him and the two other girls.

Another image flickered in front of me and disappeared before I could comprehend it. All that I could make out was another man. He was alone like the others, his skin was pale and his hair was dark. I wanted to ask the voice to show it again, but another image began playing out. I immediately recognized Hunter and became alarmed at his appearance.
