I woke up early the next morning. I rolled over and the small clock in my room said 5:45 am. Groaning I got out of bed and got ready for whatever Jason was going to put me through today.
When I got back to my room I noticed my tiny phone light on my nightstand. I'd completely forgotten about it during the chaos. I walked over and noticed I had several missed calls. My phone was one of the few privileges I had under Pa's tight leash. It was just a small flip phone, but it was enough in case of an emergency. It didn't take a genius to know it was Pa that had been pelting my phone with calls. Hesitantly, I listened to his voicemails.
"How dare you embarrass me like that?! I'm gonna tear into your raw hide when I see you! You're going to regret crossing my Daisy Lynn," Pa's voice was angry and a wave of panic shot through my body. I deleted the message and the next one started playing.
"Listen here you ungrateful tramp! I don't know what kind of black magic you've been practicing, but just know I'm not falling for it. You think your little tricks are going to stop me from tracking you down? You're sadly mistaken. Just wait until I get my hands on you," he said, his voice deepening at the end. I gulped loudly as I deleted the message and the next one played.
"I've got search parties all over the place for you, you little witch. They're gonna find you and kill you," he said darkly. There was a pause and I was about to delete the message when Pa spoke again.
"Daisy Lynn," his voice was pleading. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you, I'm just concerned about your whereabouts. I don't know what's going on with you. Please come home," he said. Pa had a gift at sounding sincere and switching rolls on the spot. Shakily I deleted the message and hung up the phone. I took a few moments to compose myself and headed downstairs.
Jason wasn't in the kitchen, so I just grabbed an apple off of the counter and munched on it. I wasn't particularly hungry after what I'd just heard, but knew I needed some kind of sustenance. I looked at the time on the microwave and it was 6:45. I knew it was still kind of early so I just headed outside to where we were before and waited for him.
I sat down in the grass and crossed my legs. The grass was still wet from the morning dew so my hands became damp. Instead of letting the moisture drip away I kept the water in my hands and had it from a thin coat across my palms and fingers. I took my left hand and waved it in a circle, leaving the water behind as it followed its path. Surprisingly, the hydro-donut looked very symmetrical in the air. I did the same thing with my right hand and I had two shapes side by side, before me. It seemed like that one training day was already starting to help - the effort it took to keep them in the air was significantly less than I anticipated.
Next I added sharp edges to my 'donuts' and froze then. A tree was about 50 feet away. I stood up and locked my eyes on it. I turned my spheres horizontally and caused them to spin increasingly fast. There was no particular reason behind me preparing to attack the tree other than the fact that there wasn't much else to do at the moment. Using my hands I surged them both forward at the tree and a few seconds later they impacted.
There was a shredding sound and then two largest pieces of the tree fell off, leaving just a stump. It wasn't too loud because the tree was a little ways away. If Jason wasn't out soon thorn I'd keep going with my eom training. It probably wasn't nearly as good as he could do, but it would be better than waiting. Lucky for him, he came out a few minutes later, tight faced, hair tousled and it looked like he was...blushing?
I raised and eyebrow at him. He shrugged.
"What's on the agenda for today?" I ask.
"Today we're adding the physical part of your training to your daily regimen. Today and the next nine days you'll be running a mile. Then two, and after that three and then four for ten days after that. Here are the rules:if you stop you distance starts over and if you walk you distance doesn't count until you start running again. And I'll know exactly how you're doing," he taps a finger on his forehead. "And we have a whole 24 hours. The longer you take the later your other training begins. I don't care if we don't finish until midnight."
