Daisy Lynn's POV
I hadn't been running long when I realized the Enforcer decided that I was the one he wanted to chase after. I didn't know where I was going, but I pushed my way through doors and hallways. It was all I could do to dodge the fire trailing behind me.
I reached the end of a hallway and made a sharp turn to the right. There were two doors to choose from. I kicked the door the left open as I pushed open the right. Both slammed shut after I ran through. I hoped that he would choose the other one.
The door I went through opened to a stair case, so before I could even think about it, I was running up. I wasn't sure if it was the right decision, but I could at least see him at a better angle should he come bursting through.
I had made it maybe four or five levels before I heard the door below slam. I leaned against the wall to catch my breath. Although I had been exercising every day, I was still weak. But I wasn't as weak as I expected myself to be. It probably had something to do with Myra.
Nervously, I peered over the railing to see him looking left and right. I slowly backed away before he could look up and see me. As long as he stood there, I was fine, but I knew I couldn't stay on this staircase forever.
Down below, I could hear him taking slow steps upward. He wasn't sure if I was really up here, so he wasn't going to waste his energy. But if I tipped him off he'd come charging. I needed to increase our distance as quickly as possible, without making any noise.
Carefully, I took two steps at a time. I wasn't sure how far up the stairwell went. I didn't even know how big the building was that we were in.
After another set of steps I needed to take a rest. I couldn't hear him anymore. I peered over the railing against. Our eyes meet. I squealed and felt my anxiety sky rocket. My heart was in my throat and my vision became cloudy. I stumbled backward onto my bottom. I could hear him bounding up the stairs.
In a panic, I tried to stand up and slipped again. I had to move. I had to-
Fire singed the wall just a few feet from me.
I flipped over onto my hands and knees and took the first few steps like a dog before getting on my two feet. Before I could even take off properly, I felt a warm hand grab my ankle. He tugged me forcefully and I slipped onto my side. Pain radiated through my entire chest and I knew I'd fractured a rib.
I cried, tears streaming down my face both from fear and from pain.
"Pitiful" he said simply, as he put both of his hands up.
I copied his movements as I put both of my hands out and put everything I had into using my power.
I watched as flames exploded out of my left hand as my right hand began to frost over. The flames were going right at the Enforcer's face, but he didn't even flinch as they landed on him. I put both of my hands down and couldn't stop myself from shaking as I flipped them over and over. What was going on?
