chapter four, the triwizard tournament

𝔗he fiasco of the Quidditch World Cup was no where near forgotten, and Bonnie prayed to Merlin that nothing like that would ever happen again. They'd arrived home the next morning. Her parents had been staying with Mrs. Diggory while they were out, and each of them were worried when they'd returned. Her parents swept her away into a hug having heard the news of what had happened, while Mrs. Diggory checked on Cedric before pulling both of the two into her arms.

The Bowers found it particularly worrisome that their daughter didn't have the normal smile on her face. Normally it, was lighting up every room. And now she looked pale.

Of course, this was only to be expected. After the terror that had taken place at the Quidditch World Cup, many people were arriving home with that same look on their face. But it was still frightening to see the look on Bonnie's face, as though she had scene a ghost. Mr. Diggory had spent the trip back trying to reassure her that everything was going to be just fine. That the Ministry would catch those that had caused fear among the wizarding community.

Bonnie had tried for a smile, but it turned into a grimace.

Everyone knew, that that was a lie.

They hadn't been caught thirteen years ago. They wouldn't be caught now.

After the dark mark had appeared they had fled shortly after, having as much reason to be scared about You-Know-Who coming back like everyone else. It'd been explained to Bonnie that You-Know-Who would no doubt be angry at his loyal followers.

When she'd gotten home she'd gripped her mother tightly, as though scared to let her go. And she was scared. Her mother was a muffle, and that could've been her in the sky like a puppet. The war ended years ago. She shouldn't have to worry about how anything would go now. It was too cruel. The thought of losing her mother. The woman she loved most in the world.

As though sensing how Bonnie was feeling, her mother made no move to push her off but hugged her just as tight.

In the weeks following, none of the Death Eaters had been identified. No one brought to justice and it made Bonnie's stomach curl with an unfamiliar anger. The train ride to Hogwarts was quiet. Cedric, Bonnie and Amber finding nothing exciting to talk about. It was odd to see the two Hufflepuffs quiet. They were normally talking about something, but that wasn't the case this train ride. Amber, who had also been at the Quidditch World Cup was also uncharacteristically quiet, finding nothing to say.
