chapter eleven, firewhiskey and lies
𝔅onnie felt awful when she caught sight of the badges next Tuesday morning. Perhaps she hadn't noticed the night before, but it stuck with her. It sickened her to see Julia handing them out but mostly, she hated the small happy feeling. The feeling when she realized a majority of Hogwarts was indeed supporting her. Not everyone was considering Harry the sole Hogwarts champion, as the papers made him out to be, but she was getting recognition among her peers. And so, with a heavy heart, she said nothing about it. Even when she felt guilty every time she saw Harry, but it would then be interrupted by someone else.
Plus, there was the whole ordeal about the Daily Prophet, in which Bonnie's name was only mentioned once ( and it wasn't even spelled right ━ Bonnee Bowie was close, sure, but not right considering she was entering a deadly competition, she at least wanted her name, which wasn't hard to spell, spelled correctly in the papers ). The entire article was basically about Harry Potter, who was relentlessly teased for what Rita wrote. Something along the lines of:
I suppose I get my strength from my parents.
I know they'd be proud of me if they could
see me now. . . Yes, sometimes at night I still
cry about them, I'm not ashamed to admit it. . .And so on, even mentioning his supposed love interest Hermione Granger, who Bonnie knew very well was just as good a friend as Ronald Weasley was. Although he seemed to have taken a short break from Harry when the word spread and his name was announced Bonnie noticed.
Walking into Hogsmeade, Bonnie felt extremely happy seeing the Support Bonnie Bowers! badges that gleamed on people's chest. Knowing that they would be supporting her made her proud, and people greeted her with smiles.
She had found a few people who thought that Hogwarts could go better champion wise, as she had noticed Amber hex one Ravenclaw girl and receive detention, but otherwise not many people voiced any negativity about her being the Hogwarts champion. She took it to heart, dragging Cedric into empty classrooms to help her practice as the First Task drew nearer. And she had no idea what it would be.
"We should go to Honeydukes," Amber said, pulling her green and silver knit scarf tighter around her neck, eyeing the little candy shop with interest.
The weather had slowly started getting colder. It had yet to snow, but they did need to dress in warm clothes. Not in the bundled up version but more of sweaters and hats and scarves. Winter was always Bonnie's second favorite season, following behind Spring and so Bonnie was feeling happier than she had in a while. The air was cool with the distinct feeling of something exciting creeping closer and closer as they dug deeper into the month of November.
