(3 months later.)
"Morning Captain." I heard from behind me. I looked behind and saw no one other than Chase Riley.
"What's up?"
He turned his head back and forth, then walked into my quarters. He rested his arms on my shoulders and kissed me on the top of my head.
"Chase I told you not at work."
"No, you told me that we couldn't get caught." He said with a smirk.
"That includes getting caught at work."
He sighed.
"Gas leak. Engine 12, Truck 67, Squad 92, Ambulance 43."
"Saved by the bell." I said getting up to run out to the rigs.
"Hey Captain any idea why they would need that many rigs for a gas leak?"
"Well I'm hoping a gas station isn't on fire." I answered.

Chase drove us to the scene and we got out.
I saw a huge fire in front of me.
"Holy crap." Chase exclaimed getting out.
Someone came running over to me.
"Are you in charge?" He asked.
I nodded.
"There's two people in the gas station."
"Alright. Squad get in there so search and rescue. Engine get these fires put out." I was about to go back to the rig when I saw a power line on the ground catch fire and lead over to the gas pumps.
"Everyone get down!" I yelled just as the two gas pumps blew up in smoke. I flew to the ground followed by a puff of black smoke.

I coughed and took the sight in. It was terrifying. Neighboring buildings had caught on fire, the gas station fire was even bigger.
"Oh my God." I got up and tried to see threw the black smoke. I caught up to Chase.
"Hey you okay?" He asked holding my face in his hands to make sure I had no cuts or bruises.
"Yeah I'm good, how bout you?"
"I'm good." I nodded.
Soon all the other firefighters from House 34 slowly pilled in. Everyone was for the most part okay, except for Savannah who had a broken arm. I noticed someone was missing.
"Chief where's Lieutenant Foster?" He looked around.
Wyatt Green spoke up.
"He was first to go in."
"Captain what do we do?"
I thought for a minute.
"Chief, no matter what way you look at it your gonna have to call for more firefighters and paramedics. I'll take Chase and Wyatt in the building to get Lieutenant Foster and the two victims." He nodded.
"Firehouse 34, to main, we need backup to our location. Now." As Chief Riley called for backup I lead Chase and Wyatt into the gas station.
"Fire department! Call out!" Dead silence.
"Come on lieutenant!" Wyatt yelled.
"He's over here!" I said seeing him on the ground.
I took my mask off then his. I put my mask on him.
"We got to get him out of here. Did you guys find the civilians?"
"Yeah. They're both gone."
I sighed.
"Well let's try to save him." I helped them carry him out to the stretcher. I saw many more firehouses including 51 at the scene.
We placed him on the stretcher.
"How is he?" I asked Savannah.
"His vitals aren't strong, he doesn't have a pulse and he isn't breathing. Start compressions. Charge to 300." She said answering me.
Chase did compressions while Joe charged the paddles.
Joe charged the paddles and Chase lifted his hands up.
"No pulse."
They did the same thing three times until they decided it was enough.
"Time of death.." Savannah began but I interrupted her and started compressions.
"Come on!"
"Captain."
"Let her try."
"Sophia, he's gone."
"Damn it!" I exclaimed throwing my gloves the ground.
"Time of death 12:54."
I walked away and sat against the rig. I heard footsteps and looked up to see Kelly standing in front of me.
"Hey."
"Hi."
"I'm sorry for the loss of your Lieutenant."
"Thanks."
"Why don't you come to Molly's tonight and drink for once instead of bartending and leaving."
"I will, but today is the day Jay and I sign the divorce papers so."
"So it's really official than?"
I nodded with hurts in my eyes.
"Yeah well not everyone gets a happy ending right?"
He pulled me into a hug.
"You'll be alright."
"I know."

I was finishing up paperwork from the fire earlier when I heard a knock on my door.
"Come in."
"Hey Captain."
"Hey Chase."
"I wanted to see if you wanted to get some drinks tonight at cheap shots?"
"That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about."
"Everything alright?"
"I can't do this anymore. I thought I was ready for a relationship, but I just had a nasty breakup, and I have two kids and I'm just not ready. I'm sorry."
"No I get it. Friends?"
"Of course. Why you don't you come to Molly's tonight. It's the bar I work at."
"I'd love too."
"I'll see you then."
"See you then."

I walked into Molly's and sat at the bar next to Brett.
"Hey, Severide what can I get you?" Hermann asked.
"Just a beer." He brought one over to me.
"When are you coming back to 51?"
"When my suspensions over. I mean who knows how long that's gonna be look how long Boden's been suspended."
I heard the bell of the door signaling someone walked in and I looked over to see Boden.
"Speak of the Devil and he shall appear."
He sat down next to me.
"What's this I hear your a Captain at Firehouse 34?" He asked.
"Job offer. I took it." I said before taking a sip of my beer.
"You left 51, after I made you lieutenant."
"I didn't leave. I was suspended."
"I know. My suspension was lifted yesterday. I talked to commissioner Grissom, he's lifting yours as well. I want you to come back to 51 and be Lieutenant on Truck again."
"I would love to. Thanks for talking to the commissioner Chief."
"Your welcome. I do have one question though."
"Shoot."
"Why did you ask both Commissioner Grissom and Chief Riley to call you by your maiden name and not your married name?" He asked.
I looked down at my ring finger that once was home to my wedding ring.
"Jay and I are getting a divorce."
"What!" Brett exclaimed sitting next to me.
"It just didn't work out. So here we are."
"I'm sorry to here that."
"It's for the better." I said sighing.
"I have to get going actually. I have to go the lawyers office to sign the divorce papers. I'll see you guys at work tomorrow."
"Bye Severide."
"See ya."

I got in my car and drove to the lawyers office.
I parked next to Jays truck.
"So this is it huh?"
"Guess so." I swallowed my breath and followed him into the office.
"Good evening, Ms. Severide and Mr.Halstead." The family lawyer said as we sat down.
"Here's the papers, if you both would sign them we can talk about custody of your children." I nodded and signed my name and Jay followed suit.
"Alright, so you have two children together correct?"
I nodded.
"How old are they?"
"Our oldest is four and our youngest is gonna be a year old." I said answering him.
"Alright, do you two know how you want to separate custody or are you gonna give full custody to one parent?"
"Every other week the other will get them. For example I could get them this week and Sophia next week."
He nodded.
"You both agree on this?"
We both nodded.
"Alright sign here."
We signed.
"Sophia gets the house, correct?" We nodded.
"Alright, sign here and then everything will be finalized." I nodded holding back tears and signed one more time.
"Alright. Congratulations Ms. Severide and Mr. Halstead you are legally divorced." The lawyer told us.
"Congratulations? This isn't a good thing. Watching two people who once loved each other, who have kids together sign divorce papers is not a good thing." I said before rushing out the door.
Jay followed me.
"Hey you okay?"
"No, I'm not. I just signed papers saying that we are divorced so no, I'm not."
"I'm sorry."
"I know. So am I." I said before getting into my car and driving home.
