The morning after

————————————————————————I rolled over as I was waking up to be stopped by a pair of strong arms. Suddenly it hit me where I was. I was in Jay's apartment, in his bed, in his arms.
"Damnit." I whispered
I tried getting up without him waking up but it didn't work.
"Hey good morning sunshine."
"Good morning Jay. I would love to stay and talk but I need to get to work."
"Well I wish you could stay, but last night was fun."
"Definitely." I said winking at him.

I walked into the firehouse and saw that nobody was cooking breakfast like usual.
"Damnit it's my turn to cook isn't it?"
"Yeah it is." Joe told me
"Got it."
I started cooking pancakes about 10 minutes later everything was done.
"Come eat before the bells go off." I yelled.
After Shay got her breakfast I pulled her aside.
"I slept with Jay."
"Why would you do that?"
"I don't know it sorta just happened."
"How does I sorta happen, do you still have feelings for him?"
"I don't know maybe."
"You need to tell him."
"But I don't know my feelings towards him yet."
"Well when you find it out let me and him know."
"Got it." She laughed at me.
Just as I was finishing breakfast a guy came running in the firehouse.
"Help! Help me please!"
Everyone that was close enough ran over to the guy. He was covered in blood.
"Ok sir I need you to sit down. Are you hurt." Gabby asked while Shay started to check him out.
"No I'm not hurt. I live across the street my wife went into labor."
"You tried to deliver the baby yourself?" I asked him.
"I did deliver the baby but my wife is losing a lot of blood and the baby isn't crying."
Shey and Gabby shared a concerned look.
"Cruz, Sophia come with us."
We ran towards the house and saw the mans wife passed out on the floor.
I ran over to her and checked her pulse.
"Her pulse is there and she's breathing but she's unconscious."
"I'm gonna check the baby. Cruz get Sophia the gurney out of the rig."
"You got it Dawson."
He ran to get the gurney while Gabby and Shay went to check on the baby.
I ran to the bathroom and grabbed some towels to stop the woman's bleeding.
"The baby has no pulse and he's not breathing, I'm starting chest compressions."
I watched Shay as she did compressions to the tiny human laying lifeless on the ground.
Cruz came running with a gurney and he helped me get the lady on it.
I stayed with Shay and the baby while Gabby went with Joe.
"I got a pulse, Sophia see if you can find a blanket for the baby."
"Ok."
I grabbed a blanket off the couch and gave it to Shey to wrap the baby in.
"Thanks." She smiled at me
"No problem."

Shay and Gabby got the baby and the wife to med and the husband stayed at the firehouse. He looked shaken up so I went over to him.
"Sir what's your name?"
"Nicholas."
"Ok Nicholas. What's the matter? You look like you saw a ghost."
"I didn't want the baby but my wife did so I decided that she should give birth to the baby at home and I would take care of it then."
He said stuttering. My eyes widened with horror.
"What do you mean take care of it?"
"After she gave birth to the baby I grabbed his neck and pinned him to the ground and strangled him till he stopped crying."
"Capp could you get Boden please."
"You got it Severide."
"I need you to stay here sir while I call the cops."
He took off running but lucky for me he ran right towards Kelly and Casey.
I ran after the man.
"Kelly, Casey stop him!"
They tackled him to the ground.
"What happened?"
Boden and Capp came running out.
"He tried to kill his baby and his wife."
"I'm calling CPD."

A squad car pulled up outside the firehouse, it was Burgess and Atwater.
"This the guy you need us to arrest?" Kevin asked pointing at Nicholas.
"Yeah the bastard tried to kill his newborn and his wife."
"Ok thanks for calling us."
"Anytime."

After shift I decided to take a ride to med too see how the baby and the mother were doing.
"I'm looking for a baby and a mother that were brought in by paramedics. I don't know her name but I was one of the firefighters who helped her and I want to see how she's doing."
"Your looking for a Claire Murphy she's in room 103."
"Thank you." I smiled at the lady at the front desk.

I knocked on the door and heard a faint come in.
"Hi are you Claire Murphy?"
"Yeah I am, who are you?"
"I'm Sophia Severide. I'm one of the firefighters who helped you and your baby."
"Thank you. His name is Michael."
"I like that name."
"Thank you."
"Your welcome."
"He's so quite I love him so much."
I smiled at her.
"Claire, do you know that your husband tried to kill your baby and you."
"He's not my husband, he's my abusive ex. He raped me and I ended up getting pregnant. I went to his house to let him know I was giving birth. He held a knife to my neck and told me that I was giving birth at his house or he would kill me and the baby."
"I'm so sorry that happened. Police have Nicholas in custody but if you want him to go to prison your gonna have to press charges and testify against him."
"Ok I will."
"Ok, uhh I'm gonna head out."
"Ok. It was nice meeting you and thank you for saving me and my baby."
"Just doing my job." I said walking out.
As I was walking to my car I noticed Jay sitting on a bench outside the hospital.
"Jay it's cold and it's snowing what are you doing sitting on a bench?"
He looked up and I noticed he had tears in his eyes. I sat down next to him.
"What happened?"
"One of the people I work with got shot and killed today, her name was Jules."
"I'm sorry Jay."
"Thanks."
"You could use a friend. Do you want to come to my place and we can watch some movies or something?"
"That would be nice." He said smiling
"Come on let's go."
He grabbed my hand and we walked back to my car. I drove us back to my apartment and put a movie on the tv. Jay sat down next to me on the couch. He rested his head on my shoulder as I pulled a blanket over the both of us.
"Thank you for being here for me Sophia."
"Anytime Jay, anytime."
