Happy Birthday

(1 month later)
Today is Shay's birthday and she's at Jay's apartment.
I woke up to an empty and quite house. The only thing I heard was the sound of Mayas paws on the hardwood. I'm not gonna lie even after how long we've been apart I'm not used to being in an empty house.
After getting dressed I called Jay.
"Hey what's up?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to call and see how the kids are."
"They're great."
"Can I talk to to Ben?"
"Yeah of course."
It was silent for a minute but then I heard his tiny voice.
"Hi Mommy!"
"Hi Ben!"
"Mommy, did you know that Shays birthday is today?"
"I did, can you tell her happy birthday for me?"
"I will, she's asleep right now."
"Oh okay, can you put you dad back on the phone?"
"Yes, bye mommy!"
"Bye Ben, I'll see you later. I love you."
"I love you too Mommy." I smiled as the line went silent.
"Hey you there?"
Jay asked.
"Yeah I'm here, I gotta get going though."
"Alright. Well when Shay gets I will tell her happy birthday for you."
"Thank you."
"Yeah, of course."
"Alright Bye."
"Bye."
I hung up the phone and slipped it into my pocket so that I could go to work.
I walked into the firehouse and Gabby came up to me.
"Hey, today is Shays birthday right?"
I nodded.
"Yeah, her and Ben are at Jay's house though, so I haven't seen her yet."
"That's b.s. she's your daughter too."
"Yeah I know. It's kinda sad really, a year ago today we were celebrating her being born. Jay and so were married. If you told me that this is what my life would look like a year ago, I never would've believed you."
"I know."
"Multi car pileup. Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Truck 81, Engine 51, Battalion 25."
"Come on!" We got in the rigs and drove to the scene. There was at least 5 cars that looked totaled. One in particular caught my eye.
"Oh my God!" I exclaimed getting out of the rig.
"What?" Casey asked.
"That's my babysitters car!"
"How do you know?" He asked following me over to it.
"Because she's picked my kids up in it before!"
I ran over to the car that was flipped onto its side.
"Kelsey! Can you hear me!" She nodded.
"Okay honey, try not to move."
"Get me a c-collar!" I yelled.
Gallo handed it to me.
"Hey Kelsey,we're gonna get you out of here, okay?" She nodded.
"Are the kids in the backseat?"
She nodded again. I climbed up on top of the car to help her out.
"You got her?" I asked helping her out to Gallo. He nodded. I saw Kelly's face appear.
"Hey how's the kids?"
"I don't know yet." I said. I climbed into the car.
"You can't do that Sophia!" Casey said.
"Casey, tell me you wouldn't do the same if it was Louie and Sage?"
He sighed. I saw Shay and Ben buckled into their car seats.
"Hey guys, your gonna be okay." I could easily reach Shay.
"Hey baby, this isn't how I wanted to say happy birthday to you, but happy birthday." I checked her out and noticed that she had no visible injuries.
"Alright, I'm gonna give you to Uncle Kelly. Okay?" She nodded.
I handed her up to Kelly.
I went back down to get Ben. I saw he was unconscious.
"Come on Ben, wake up." I tried shaking him awake. Nothing. I tried getting him out of his car seat but it looked like he was trapped in the seatbelt.
"Damn it!" I grabbed my knife and cut the seatbelt making sure not to cut him.
He was still unresponsive.
"Come in Ben! Talk to me!" I pulled him out of his car seat. I saw that he had blood on his head. He must've hit his head when the car flipped over. I checked his pulse. Nothing.
"No!" I pulled him out of the car.
"Get him out of here! He's got no pulse!" I said handing him to Kelly.
I pulled myself out of the car.
Stella and Otis tried to help me down but I hopped off myself and ran over to the ambulance.
"How is he?" I asked Gabby.
She shook her head no.
"Charged to a 100." Brett said. Gabby lifted her hands and I watched her shock Ben.
"I got a pulse!"
"Thank God."
The loaded him into the ambulance where Shay already was. Shay thankfully didn't have any injuries.
I looked to Boden.
He nodded. I hopped into the back of the ambulance with Gabby, while Brett got in the drivers seat.
"You need to call Jay."
"I will."

After what seemed like forever we arrived at Med.
"Ben Halstead, 4 years old, trauma to the head. Intubated in the field." Gabby said to Natalie and Crockett as they greeted us at the doors of the hospital.
"You can't go in there. I'm sorry." Maggie said stopping me in the waiting room.
I pulled my phone out and immediately called Jay.
"Hello?"
"You need to get to Med now." I said in a shaky voice.
"Hey what's going on?"
"Kelsey got into a car crash. With Ben and Shay in the car. Ben got rushed into emergency surgery. You need to get here now."
"I'm already on my way." He said. I could hear a car door shut in the background.
"Please hurry." I said before hanging up.

Not even five minutes later Jay rushed through the door of Med.
He came up to where I was standing with Shay in my arms and pulled me into his own.
"Is everyone alright?"
"Kelsey just had a couple broken bones, Shays fine, but when I pulled Ben out of that car there was blood all over his head. He didn't have a pulse. Gabby and Brett brought him back and he was rushed to emergency surgery." Natalie had gone to find Will before but now I saw them both rush through the doors.
"How is he?" I asked.
"We don't know yet." I swallowed my breath.

2 hours later.
51 rushed through the doors, Kelly first.
"How is he?"
"He was rushed to emergency surgery."
"What caused the accident?" Jay asked.
"Drunk driver." Otis answered.

4 hours later.
Dr. Marcel walked into the waiting room.
Jay and I both got up and went over to him.
"How is he?"
"He'll live." He said with a smile on his face.
A huge sigh of relief ran over me.
"He won't be up for a while but, you can both go wait in his room." We both nodded and took Shay into the room where Ben was asleep.
I sat down next to Jay.
"This isn't how I expected this day to go." I said sighing.
"Me neither."
"Happy freakin' birthday Shay." I said kissing her on the head. I knew in the end everything would be alright.

HUGE SPOILER ALERT!!!!

holy crap! tonight's episodes were wild! first noah shows up and then leaves again, like there was no point in even bringing him back. second marcel and natalie are actually kinda cute together ngl... i mean i still think her and will are endgame but her and marcel are pretty cute. now onto chicago fire. CRUZ IS GONNA BE A DAD!!!! IM SO HAPPY FOR HIM!!! thank God Mouch is okay. also side note i really miss otis. now onto chicago pd. WE GOT A BURZEK KISS!!! ADAM GIVING KIM HIS COAT WAS ADORABLE!! also burgess is a literal badass. i'm living for burgess and atwater's friendship this episode as well.  i love how kim took in makayla 🥺.
I really hope it's Adam who walked in front of kim's car at the end. also i loved this weeks episodes, what were your thoughts on the episode?
