It had been a long painful 6 weeks but I was fully healed. Well physically at least. Mentally I will never be the same. Kelly made me stay with him for those 6 weeks. Jay and I shared everything with each other in these last six weeks and we became close again. Me and Gabby were working at Molly's with Otis and Hermann. Otis, Gabby, and I were talking to Kelly and Matt at the bar while we were on our break.
"Sophia you keep looking at Jay."
"Sorry what did you say Casey?"
"Why do you keep looking over at your ex boyfriend?"
"Oh uh I don't know."
I noticed Jay caught me staring so I quickly looked down to the ground.
"You still have feelings for him don't you."
I punched Otis in the shoulder.
"No I do not Otis."
He gave me a knowing look.
"Ok maybe I do still have a tiny crush on him."
"Ever hear of the saying right person wrong time?" Gabby asked
"Yeah I have."
"That's what's going on between you two. You guys found your way back to each other once you will do it again. Your meant for each other."
"I don't want to ruin things between us again he is my best friend after all."
"Sophia he loves you. You didn't see the way he acted when you left or how worried he was when you got kidnapped. Give it time he will come around."
"Dawson, Otis, and Severide if you have time to chat you have time to work let's go." Hermann said to us signaling it was time to get back to work.
—
We got back to work and afterwards I went back to Kelly's apartment he stayed at Molly's a little longer. I was about to call the realtor back when I heard a knock on the door. I walked over and looked through the peep hole and saw Jay.
I unlocked the door and let him in.
"Hey what are you doing here it's late." I said with a yawn.
"I need your help with something."
"Ok."
I led him over to the couch and sat down with him.
"What's the problem?"
He pulled an engagement ring box out.
"I wanna ask Erin to marry me."
Well that was a shot to the heart.
"Say something I need someone's advice."
"My advice is do what makes you happy. If she makes you happy then go for it. Propose."
"What do you think about all this?"
I knew damn well that I was sad I wasn't Erin but I was happy for Jay so all I said was
"If your happy then I'm happy for you." Tears started to sting my eyes.
"Thank you so much Sophia." He stood up and gave me a hug then left.
That's when the tears came.
Not long after Kelly came through the door.
"Hey why are you crying?" He came over and sat next to me.
"Jay is going to propose to Erin." I told him wiping the tears away from my eyes. "And I'm so happy for him but I wish it was me he was proposing to me."
"I know." He pulled me into his arms and gave me a hug and then I went to bed.
—
I heard my alarm go off.
"Guess I have to get up."
I went out to the kitchen and noticed Kelly was still asleep so I tried being quiet.
I started making bacon and coffee.
I heard Kelly stir in his sleep and then I heard him get up and go to the bathroom.
"Kelly."
"What?"
"I made bacon and coffee if you want any."
"Thanks."
"Yeah of course."
We heard a knock at the door.
"Who's hear this early?"
"I have no clue."
I went to go see who it was.
I looked through the peephole and saw Casey.
"Shift doesn't start for another hour. What are you doing here?"
"Gabby and I got into a fight."
"Trouble in paradise?" I heard Kelly say over my shoulder
I laughed at that remark.
"Come in Casey there's bacon on the counter and coffee in the pot."
"Thanks."
I went and got dressed and put my hair into a low ponytail.
"Come on you guys ready to go?"
"Yeah are we all talking separate cars or are we carpooling."
"I mean I have a shift at Molly's so I need my car but you guys can do whatever you want."
I walked into the firehouse and went to the locker room to get changed.
Sylvie came and sat on the bench next to me.
"Hey Severide."
"Hey Brett."
"It's confusing having two people with the last name Severide in the fire house." I laughed at her
"So then you can call me Sophia."
"Well Sophia I moved here from Fallerton a year ago, and I'm trying to make some new friends. Gabby and I already hit it off, and I wanted to see if you wanted to be friends?"
"Of course Sylvie. Us girls gotta look out for each other."
"Yay."
Hermann walked in.
"Chief wants us in the conference room says he has something important to tell us."
Me and Sylvie made our way into the room and went and stood against the wall near Gabby.
"Ok now that everyone is here, I have two announcements to make. The first one is that Donna is pregnant and I'm going to be a father."
"Congrats Chief."
"Ok the next announcement is we are welcoming a new firefighter on to truck to replace Peter."
That's what really caught my attention.
"Please welcome to firehouse 51 Stella Kidd."
Ooh a girl.
"Hi everyone."
"Stella I want you to meet everyone. There's Tony Ferraris, Harold Capp, Joe Cruz, and Lieutenant Kelly Severide on squad. On truck with you there is Brian Zvonecek but you can call him Otis, Randy Mcholland but you can call him Mouch, Christopher Hermann, Sophia Severide, and Lieutenant Matt Casey. On ambulance 61 there is Gabriela Dawson, and Sylvie Brett."
"Nice to meet you all."
"51 is a family. A family that you now belong too. We lookout for each other. If I were you I would make friends with your family Stella."
I motioned Stella over to me, Gabby, and Brett.
"Word of advice Stella, these boys are ruthless and they are annoying and they smell so us girls have to stick together. How about we all go out for drinks tonight at Molly's?" Sylvie suggested.
"Me and Sophia have to bartend but you guys can drink."
"That works."
Right before I walked out Stella pulled me aside.
"Why is there two Severides are they married?"
"No, I'm Sophia Severide, Kelly is my older brother."
"Oh ok that makes sense."
"Yeah come on we got work to do."
—
A couple hours later I walked out into the commons room and couldn't believe who's was standing there. I saw no one other than my dad talking to Hermann.
"Oh you have got to be kidding me."
I ran towards Kelly's bunk.
"Why the hell are you running?"
"Kelly dad is here. In the firehouse!"
"Why?"
"I don't know but he can't see me."
"Why not?"
"He doesn't know that when I left college I went to enlist in the army. He doesn't know that I broke up with my ex-fiancé, and most importantly he doesn't know I'm a firefighter."
"So then why don't you tell him?"
"Because he will kill me."
Kelly looked up from his paper work.
"Sophia he won't kill you. He will be proud of you."
"Fine but your coming with me and if he kills me I'm blaming you."
"How are you gonna blame me you will be dead." He said smirking.
I gave him the stink eye.
"I'll come out of my grave and blame you."
"Oh shut up so we can go talk to dad."
We walked out to where my dad was standing.
Kelly is 5'11 and I'm 5'7 so I hid behind him.
"Hey dad."
My dad gave Kelly a hug.
"Kelly good to see you. How is it being Lieutenant."
"It's great dad but there's someone you might want to see."
Kelly stepped aside.
"Sophia what are you doing here?"
The rest of 51 looked at us in confusion.
"I'm a firefighter dad."
"She never told him she's a firefighter." Kelly said clearing up the confusion.
"Does your mom know your a firefighter."
"No."
"Really Sophia, you didn't tell mom either."
"Shut up Kelly."
"What happened to you being a writer Sophia?"
"It was too boring for me so when I got out of college I enlisted in the military to be a surgeon out in the field and when I got out of the military I became a paramedic and then a firefighter."
"Why didn't you tell me? I love the idea that you wanted more action in your life. So how's Chris?"
51 looked at Kelly in confusion.
"Dad he cheated on me and I broke up with him."
"When Sophia was in college she dated this guy named Chris and they got engaged and when she went to Afghanistan he cheated on her." Kelly said clearing up the confusion.
"Well I'm happy that your happy. You should tell your mom your not a writer anymore."
"I'll call her later."
"Ok honey."
"House fire. Engine 51, squad 3, truck 81, ambo 61, battalion 25."
"Let's go people. Benny you can drive your car and watch if you want I'm sure you would love to see your kids in action."
"I would love that."
We pulled up to the scene it was raining and pitch black outside when a car pulled into the driveway of the house.
The lady started running towards the house. I ran in front of her and stopped her.
"Whoa ma'am you can't go in there."
"But my kids are in there I left them with the babysitter while I went to work."
"Ok ma'am I'm gonna get your kids out. How old are they?"
"5 and 2"
"Ok ma'am step over there."
I saw my dad watching me as I put my gear on.
"Severide and Kidd go with Cruz and Hermann and find those kids. Engine knock the fire out."
I ran into the fire with Stella on my side.
"Stella upstairs."
We walked upstairs too what looked like a kids bedroom.
"Chief I found the babysitter next to the oven." I heard Cruz say through my radio.
I walked over to the master bedroom and saw the kid under a gun safe
"Stella that gun safe is knocked over and the little kid is under it."
She came walking in the room with a baby. "I found the baby."
"Alright bring him outside and get Hermann up here along with Casey and Severide and come back up with them."
"You got it."
I tried lifting the safe by myself but I couldn't do it.
I knelt down to talk to the kid, his leg was trapped under the safe.
"Hey your gonna be ok I'm a firefighter. My friends are coming to help now. What's your name?"
"Ryan."
"Hi Ryan, I'm Sophia." I took my mask off and held it on his face so he could get more air.
I saw Kelly, Casey, Hermann, and Stella run up the stairs with airbags. I put my mask back on.
"Help me lift this safe up before he loses his leg."
Casey put airbags under and Kelly and Hermann started to lift the safe up. When there was enough space I pulled the kid out held him to my chest and ran him outside too Brett and Gabby.
"He was trapped under the gun safe." I said handing him to them
I took my helmet and my mask off and got a bottle of water.
My dad came walking up next to me.
He put his arm on my shoulder.
"I'm proud of you kid. I love you."
"Thanks dad. I love you to."
