CHAPTER 6  - THE TRUTH HAS A PRICE

Every Sunday morning my family and I attended church.

It was our duty as good Christian's to praise God, pray and repent for our sins. I always felt close to God and attending the church's choir was something that helped me 'connect' with him and become a better person. And given everything that had happened the last couple of days I needed to attend this service and maybe pray for Seth to finally get out from the stupor state he was certainly in.  But even I, didn't actually think praying for him would change anything.

Anyway, at Sunday's the Anderson family woke up at six o'clock to start getting ready for the service which in Oakheart was more like a social gathering than actually a church's service. All the woman and men dressed up all fancy like they were attending some kind of New Year's Eve after party and tried to show off to each other. Pathetic.  In spite of my mom's nagging I refused to pull such a stunt at the church – I had some dignity- and only wore a simple beige lace sundress that reached mid-thigh and a pair of beige ballerina's.

After that we would drive downtown, where the church was located and parked the car to the nearest spot. My parents would then socialize with other people till the service begin and I would search for Annabelle.

It took me a while to find her since it was really crowded but at the end I found her along with the rest of the choir members, sitting on the choir stalls on the altar.  As soon as she saw me she smiled and walked towards me. She was wearing a beautiful floral dress with tulle and flats while her hair were cascading down her back in perfect long ringlets, like mine.

"Good morning chorister!" She teased me, winking.

"Good morning to you too Annabelle. You are in a good mood" I observed.

She smiled "Well yes as in matter of fact I am. I saw a really nice dream."

I groaned "Oh no! Do I want to know?" As much as I loved Annabelle I didn't want to hear about her nasty dreams. And trust me they were really nasty.

She seemed to consider it. "I don't know, let's see."

I groaned again as she started informing me about the erotic foray she had in her dream with Ryan Gosling which for no reason shouldn't be told in front of kids. Or worse inside a church!

"So I was like 'No Ryan is wrong' and he was like 'But babe I want you' and I was like 'Yeah but don't you have a girlfriend?' and he was like 'I'll broke up with her just to be with you' and like can you imagine how hard was for me not to give in? I mean, come on what would you have done, in my place? Oh before I forget it did you bring food for the homeless? I promised Priest Luke that after the service we will help the other church volunteers give food and clothes to them."

It took me a while to register what she was saying, trying to keep up with her unbelievable fast thoughts. "Yeah I gave them to the lady at the information desk."

She clapped her hands happily "Oh Great! Where was I now? Oh yeah and then Ryan..."

After that we chatted for a while and when it was time for the service to begin we stood behind the stalls while the rest of the people started taking their seats.

My parents and Seth sat in the front looking excited for someone – probably they would have heard some juicy gossip- while Seth looked like he was ready to fall asleep right there. Of course he did, since he came back late again last night.

After everyone took their seats to the stalls, we stood up and started singing two hillsongs whilst the others either secretly prayed or singed along with us. After that we sat down back in our seats as a member of the church shared a short message about offering to the church and after that a small bucket passed from each seat so people could donate if they wanted. As the priest came up at the altar I saw my parents putting fifty dollars to the bucket. I hope they did it for good cause and not to show off to the others. After the priest made some new announcements regarding different events that were happening in the church this week and took some prayer requests he started the ceremony with a message he had prepared upon how we could be better Christians.  I listened carefully and soon found myself feeling a little disappointed since I've realized that maybe lately I wasn't really a good Christian.
