CHAPTER 7 - NEVER HAVE I EVER..
I had to lie to my parents. Again.
This was seriously starting to became a habit to me, a very bad habit something that I didn't like. At all. But since lying to them was the only answer to find out what was happening with Seth –that and also giving in to Ryder's manipulation- then that's what I would do.
I sat on Annabelle's bed watching her try on all kinds of dresses for Ryder's 'small gathering'. I had told my parents that I was going to sleep in her house since it was easier to sneak out from there because her parents were very heavy sleepers.
"What do you think?" asked Annabelle, spinning around on her heels wearing a tight white dress that showed too much skin for my liking.
I spared her a glance and then returned to the phone on my hands "Leave something to the imagination."
"Believe me, I do."She said with a suggestive tone"And for your information that's how usually girls dress at parties on TV."
I raised an eyebrow "At parties. This is just a 'small gathering'. Ryder West's small gathering." I said putting emphasis on his name to make her understand that whatever pervert thought she had in mind included only Ryder's friends; His junkie friends.
"Yeah, I'm gonna go change." She said immediately disappearing in her bathroom.
I chuckled amused.
Like me, this was Annabelle's first ever 'party', 'small gathering' even, as well. I could tell she was overly excited which didn't really applied to me. I just wanted to find out what was going on with my brother.
And I finally would.
"Alright I am ready." She said coming out of the bathroom a few minutes later wearing just a pair of jeans and a tank top with flip flops. "Ready?"
I nodded and got up from the bed.
We silently left her house, trying not to wake up her parents and since I didn't have my car with me we had to walk to Ryder's house which thankfully wasn't very far away, just a couple of minutes.
When we reached it we heard music and chattering but neither of them were loud enough to disturb the whole neighborhood or for the police to come. Hesitantly we entered his front yard and knocked the door.
An unfamiliar guy with strange haircut and a cigarette on his mouth opened us, looking at his late twenties. Automatically I took a step back taken aback and squeezed Annabelle's hand. The guy did a double take as well when he saw us but said nothing and disappeared inside.
"I'm having second thoughts." I announced to Annabelle, scared to go inside.
She rolled her eyes "Come on." She said and dragged me inside to the foyer.
His house wasn't really crowded, just a 'small gathering' as he had said with pretty much thirty people. I wondered though what kind of people since all of them were older than us –not much but older- looked 'strange' and surely all of them smoked because the whole place smelled cigarette and something else that I really didn't want to know what it was.
Annabelle dragged me out of the foyer to the rest of the house and I was surprised to see it was really well decorated. I guess I was expecting Ryder to live in a messy and dark hole like his personality.
Annabelle turned to look at me "I'll go look in the living room for Seth you go in the kitchen; I'll text you if I find him."
I caught her hand and squeezed it. "No please don't leave me alone." I begged dramatically.
