CHAPTER 38 - HALLOWEEN NIGHT

Halloween day was worse than I expected.

For starters Ι was forced by my mother to wake up really early in the morning so we could start the preparations. We cleaned up the whole house like normally did, watered and mowed our lawn, baked homemade pies and candies and lastly decorate the whole house outside with Halloween decorations.

The whole day passed by like a blur and when all the above were finished and the house was crystal clear and decorated nicely, it was time to start getting ready for the Country Club Halloween ball party. And that's what we all did.

As soon as I stepped out of the shower I started getting dressed immediately into the horrible pink gown my mother had picked out for me and started doing my makeup and hair feeling a little sad I would have to wipe it all off and ruin it in a couple of hours.

When I was ready -and looked like the worst dressed bridesmaid ever - I walked downstairs where my family was waiting me, dressed up in similar awful outfits that didn't remind anything of Halloween. My parents -and pretty much everyone in Oakheart- thought that scary or funny outfits were tres banal and Halloween was kitschy.

That's why they had completely ruined the whole meaning of Halloween in Oakheart.

When we arrived at the country club and gave our car keys to one of the staff members to park our car at the garage and as my dad made sure to tip him I stared impressed the massive building with the many springline windows from which white laser lights were radiating. A white large carpet was placed down on the grand staircase of the building's entrance so the well dressed citizens of Oakheart could be photographed before stepping inside the building.

Yeah. This is usually how the Country club was decorated during Halloween in Oakheart. There were no pumpkins, no creepy decorations, nothing spooky. This was supposed to be a Halloween party but it reminded more of a royal cocktail party.

We walked towards the entrance and after we photographed in a very awkward family photo we stepped inside the lobby and walked down the hallway to the event room where the party was happening. The hallway of course held no decoration apart from the white carpet on the marble floor and the many portraits of the founders and owners of the Country club throughout the years.

As we stepped inside the double glass doors of the event room I looked unimpressed the crowded room. Big round tables with silk beige tablecloth assigned by seating arrangements were placed all around the room, leaving just a small space between the small low stage -in which a band was playing jazz music- and them, so people could dance. The double balcony doors were opened giving a fantastic view over the Country Club's green land, where a lot of people had gathered in small groups to chat and gossip about the latest news of Oakheart.

I heard beside me Seth groan silently, obviously bored since this wasn't really his favorite place to be. I couldn't help but join him by letting out a tired, unimpressed sigh. Our parents from the other hand couldn't help but look amazed by the decoration.
