CHAPTER 27 - THIS ISN'T GOING TO END WELL, IS IT?
"Cupcake if you are not here in thirty seconds I'm leaving." Ryder warned me over the phone a couple of days later.
"I am here now Ryder, chill." I said hanging up and opening the entrance at Starbucks finding Ryder standing there with crossed arms and an impatient look on his face. I raised an eyebrow at him and looked at him in a 'What was that all about?' look as I walked inside.
"Took you long enough." He said with a huff.
I gave him a flat look "It literally took me two minutes to get here."
He shrugged "I'm not very patient."
"Obviously." I playfully punched his arm and he laughed following me to the cashiers.
The young girl there -Barbara- who was in her middle twenties and worked two years now at Starbucks to pay for her college -and absolutely hated it - groaned when she saw me, put her earphones away got up lazily from her chair to take my order. "Oh" She recognized me unfantasized "The girl who is obsessed with Starbucks."
I nodded "Good morning." I said politely
She sighed "What complicated drink you want now?"
"Uhm..." I thought about it "I want... a triple venti, sugar free, non fat, no foam with extra caramel and whip caramel macchiato. And if you could please pour regular coffee down the side with two packs of raw sugar and a stir stick on the side, it would be great."
She wrote down my order with a groan and started preparing it as slowly, lazily as possible. I knew already she didn't like her job -especially when she had to deal with people like me - but I sure hoped she wouldn't spill on my drink or anything.
Ryder leaned beside me on the counter, looking at me weirdly; "What the fuck are you drinking?" he wondered.
I shrugged "What? It's really good!" I defended myself.
I supported my head on the tall counter while waiting for my order and stole side-way glances at Ryder while pouting impatiently and he did the same, imitating me.
"Stop it." I giggled bumping my body to his playfully.
"Stop being so goddamn cute then." he taunt back.
I blushed "Touche."
He shook his head. "Just stating the obvious."
This only made me blush harder and look down the floor shyly. I had to admit this past couple of days... everything was somehow great.Ryder and I were back to our old selves, sneaking out the nights and hanging out drinking and teasing a lot each other. This time though... something felt different. I didn't really knew why but I felt a lot more comfortable with him. More open. More... closer.
Barbara gave me finally my drink and after I paid for it we headed out to walk to school. The autumn breeze hit our faces as soon as we stepped out and my hair fell everywhere in my face.
"Can you please hold it for a second?" I asked Ryder handing him my drink. "I need to tie my coat." he took my drink out of my hands and i began to tie it with difficulty with all my hair falling to my face.
Warm hands touched my face and pulled my hair to the side so I can see clearly. I looked Ryder for a second taken aback and then continued tying up my coat.
"Thanks." I told him as soon as I tied it, taking my coffee back, my hair still falling in my face though. Okay, that was annoying.
He chuckled amused "Here." he said taking off his black beanie and giving it to me some pieces of his own hair falling to his forehead.
