In Kiev, Steve stands silently on a street corner, probably looking like a lost tourist. And he is just that, a lost tourist. In fact people come up to him and ask him if he needs directions in a language he doesn't understand.
Overwhelmed, Steve finds himself on a park bench contemplating every moment up now. Will I ever be smart enough to know when to stop chasing women? He asks himself. Of course the voice in his head sounds like Bucky. He has and always will be Steve's voice of reason.
Steve takes out his phone and tries Natasha. He is sent straight to voicemail. He leaves a message saying that he's in Kiev. And that he loves her.
He looks up only for a few flurries of snow falling down on to his forehead. The sky begins to fade from blue to a dark gray. Steve gets up quickly and decides to get his act together. His min going to Natasha and were she could be.
By now Tony, should have a more accurate location, so Steve calls him as he finds shelter from the snow. On the phone, Tony tells him of a more accurate location of where his girlfriend could be. Without care, Steve leaves the shelter of a café awning and begins to walk down the sidewalk. His footprints leaving dusty imprints in the snow behind him.

Yelena sits silently with her sister on the bus. Her head against the window, occasionally bouncing up and down against the glass. Hushed whispers of other people talking, helps drown out her own thoughts. The city streets are beginning to become less crowded as it begins to snow.
At their stop Yelena nudges her sister and they stand from their seats. On the street's sidewalk she follows closely behind Natasha, the snow whipping in both there faces.
"Keep up, we are only a few blocks from the building." Natasha says without an ounce of emotion in her tone. Yelena wants to hug her sister in all honesty and tell her it's going to be ok. Though Yelena can't truthfully say it will be ok, she has no idea what will happen, she is frightened, and maybe her sister deep down is too. But telling someone on a war path to calm down sounds like a death sentence, especially in her case. So instead Yelena catches up to Natasha and stays silent.
Why they couldn't ride the bus a few more stops. Well Natasha insisted walking would give them the advantage of surprise. Though Yelena couldn't find why that would be. But of course she follows her sister, she is the only person she trusts with her life after all.
Block by block, until Natasha points to the fire escape. The plan is for Yelena to go up through the fire escape, right into the apartment. Natasha would go through the front door.
Yelena finds her footing on the ladder and does a press check on her pistol a floor below her target's. With a round in the chamber and two fully loaded magazines, Yelena waits for the single. Being the cryptic one Natasha never discussed what the single was.
--- --- --- --- ---
Natasha winds up the staircase, not pulling out her GLOCK until she's on the right floor. She checks her weapons and makes sure everything secure. With that, she approaches the door.
Breath in.
Breath out.
She raises her leg and kicks the door in. Off it's hinges, part of the door falls providing cover. In the initial survey of the apartment, Natasha sees Yelena come in through the window. Nat goes through the kitchen, living room and bathroom, Yelena watches the windows and doors. Together they enter the bedroom. Empty.
"What a waste of time-," Yelena starts. They hear a loud thud above their heads.
"'Lena the vents. Fuck! How could I be so stupid I went over the blueprints a hundred times," Natasha yells at the wall.
"There's still time sister. The main vents big enough for a person end on the roof,"
"You're right let's go." The sisters race up four sets up of staircases, until they shoot out the lock on the roof door.
The visibility is low, there is at least an inch of snow already covering the concrete roof. Standing about twenty feet away is Melina. Her shadowy figure, holding a pistol aimed at the two girls. All three women with their guns raised circling each other slowly.
"You're not getting out of this alive Melina," Natasha yells through whipping and howling winds.
"I wasn't planning on it."
"Ivan's lap dog to last day huh?" Yelena retorts.
"Natasha sidekick to last as well I see,"
"Enough! Melina you surrender yourself right now, or I'll put a bullet through your head!" Natasha yells.
"Sweet Natalia, never had the guts to shoot without hesitation. I guess you got me," Melina slowly drops to the floor her gun almost resting on the snow.
The ear piercing sound of a gunshot rings out in Natasha's ears. Yelena starts to crumble. Natasha yells something inaudible to her own ears. The red headed assassin puts two bullets in Melina's chest, one between her eyes.
Red spills and corrupts the innocent white silk of the snow. Her sister's and Melina's own red.
"Yelena!" Natasha falls next to her sister, holding pressure to her sister's side, where the bullet went clean through her.
"Hey 'Talia I'm ok. It's ok,"
"Can you stand?" Natasha asks. Yelena nods and lets her sister help her to her feet.
Suddenly, the girls hear footsteps running up the metal stairs inside. A blond man, holding a red, white and blue shield steps into their view.
Here it is the second to last chapter! I love you guys and sorry it's been so long since I've updated! Sorry this one is so short. I promise to make the next one longer. I had to separate it into two chapters.
