-Natasha's POV-
I am drivng us to the Hydra base in a car SHIELD provided. I park a few blocks away. Surrounding the place is a tall chain link fence. At the top barrbed wire protects it. Steve places his hands out. I put my foot in them. He pushes me up and over the fence. Then he gets a running start and hurdles the fence.
"Showoff," I mumble to him. We scale the side of the building. It's tall like an office building except it has no windows. It's dark so we are easily able to avoid detection of the gaurds. There are not to many of them. When we get on the roof Steve throws his shield against the vent. I will fit Steve won't. I hand him my backpack and I jump down the vent. Moments later, I'm on the lobby floor surround by bodies. I walk up to the front door and I let Steve in. He laughs at the trail of bodies I have left. Then gives me a concerned look.
"There not dead," I exclaim."I know, I know. It's just kinda hot." He sighs. I roll my eyes. He hands me my backpack. We get into seprate elevators. He's going the archive room in the basement. I am heading up to a laboratory. The elevator dings as I get to my stop. A long white hallway is before me. I stride down it. When I reach a door I swipe my key card. The room is dark, and has an airy feeling to it. It's not airy because it has windows, but in a way that feels like it's empty. That's because it is. I find a light switch. In the middle of the room sits a desk and chair. A computer is on top of the desk.
"Damnit," I huff to myself. They must of known we were coming. I walk over to the desk. I hack into the computer and I download all the files on to a hard drive; despite that this was clearly set up. I'm so frustrated that I almost don't notice the vanilla envelope. It is neatly propped up against a paper weight. I grab it. A name is in an impeccable font. It reads. Natalia.-Steve's POV-
The archive room is the basement. It's best if Natasha handles the computer stuff. So I was left to clear out any files Fury has ordered me to. These include any information on any agent, location, or mission that belonged to SHIELD, along with any usful information on HYDRA. I swipe my key card at the door. Inside, is not what I remember an archive room looks like. It's filled with bookshelfs. But they are empty. I walk around and find a desk. A desk lamp is on it. The lamp is on, filling the room with light. A single filing cabinet is halfway open. Inside of it are 3 differnt files each have a picture attached. One is of the name Yelena Belova, a young blonde haired women with a dramatic glare stares at me. Another is Natalia A. Romanova there is a picture of Natahsa, but she is much younger maybe in her mid-teens. The finale name an picture make my heart stop. James B. Barnes.
I quickly shove the three files in my bag. I step in the elevator and head staight to the lobby. Natasha is also stepping out of another elevator. Her fingers are trembling. Unusual for the spy who is always so composed. Then again my fingers are trembling also. I close my free hand into a tight fist, this only makes my entire hand shake. My other hand grips the leather straps on my shield tightly. In silence we quickly leave the building. Once we are clear of the compound Natasha pulls the remote trigger out of her bag. She looks in my eyes, searching for something then she pulls it. An earshattering boom is heard. Flames fill the sky. A light but noticable ash rains on us. We move swiftly to the car and I drive us back to the hotel.
Since we are in our suits, we head in through a back entrance. We use the stairs and arrive at our room.
"Natasha. I found these," I say. I take the files and places them on the table. She quickly looks away from the file of Yelena. She passes over her file. Then when she lifts up the file of Bucky. A single tear flows of her cheek and on to her suit."I may owe you an explanation," Natahsa exhales.
-Natasha's POV-
I decide to give in and tell Steve.
"This is Yelena Belova, we trained together in the Red Room. I killed her. Yet she is also the reason why I was so shaken up today. She's alive," I say. Steve glances at the file of James, the Winter Solider. I shudder at his name.
"That's Bucky," Steve blurts out, pointing to his picture."Wait Bucky. Like you best friend from the war Bucky? I thought he was dead?" I ask confused.
"He is dead. I watched him fall to his death," he says. My mouth falls open.
"Steve I know him," I shake.
"Stop playing games how the hell would you know Bucky," Steve sasses.
"He was there. In the Red Room," I say softly. We are now at the kitchen counter. Covered in soot from the base. Steve's face rages in disbelief. The man that Steve would never shut up about. His best bud from before he was a fossil. The man is James. The first and only man I have ever loved.
Sorry to leave on a bit of a cliffhanger. Also this chapter was super short but I wanted the whole talking bit to have it's own chapter.
The next chapter will have some answers. There will be a lot of talking.
Thanks so much for reading. Please leave a comment.
