Prim POV
I looked up just as mom entered the room, her eyes sunken and a frown stretched across her face. she barely managed to croak out the words, "it's time." my heart sunk and I looked at my siblings, tears shining in their you and innocent eyes. I was only twelve but I was fiercely protective of them, never would I let them get hurt. Slowly we stood up and walked out of the room. I stopped and looked at my mom, "I will be fine mom, I won't get picked okay?" She just nodded her head, as she hugged me tight. At the door I saw my dad, he didn't even try to smile. I simply hugged him, no words needed to be spoken. I grabbed Gabe and Angelia's hands and we walked out the door, joining the flood of families who were flowing into the square. When we reached the desk I turned to say good bye. My family gathered around me and simply hugged, it was so comforting to feel this way, to feel safe again. Slowly I turned back to the desk, holding out my finger I surrendered to the prick and walked into my section. Fifteen minutes later the screen turned on and gave us the annual video. I despised that video, they think it's okay to make us murder each other, that it means pride for the district and unites Panem? What a load if bull. When the video stopped Effie Trinket came on, her hair a horrifying pink this time. Yet again Haymitch wasn't there, probably drunk out of his mind. Suddenly he staggered in and was swiftly brought to his chair so as not to make a ruckus. The dreaded Effie cleared her throat and went on with a small and stupid speech about Panem and how great it was. Finally she was done and she said, "Now, ladies first" in her high pitched and extremely annoying voice. I froze as did everyone else, she was picking the name. My heart started beating faster as I searched the faces for my family, when I picked then out I met eyes with Angelica an she mouthed, "you'll be fine." I sure hoped so. Turing back to the stage I heard the dreaded words, "Primrose Everdeen!" Everyone turned to look at me, whispers erupted in the crowds as they realized that I was only twelve. My heart beat faster, goose bumps raced all over my body as Effie repeated my name again. This wasn't a joke, I was picked for the hunger games.
