Prim POV

The minute I got home I got to work. I stripped off my comfortable clothes and threw on my itchy shirt and skirt. Grabbing my brush I ripped it through my hair and smiled half-halfheartedly at my mom as her nimble fingers deftly parted and braided my hair into two plates. When she was done I went into the room I share with Gabe and Angelica and sat down on my bed. Angelica looked at her hands for a few moments before she looked at me, her head still down, and said, "Prim, I don't understand why they do this to us. They have no remorse for throwing sisters and brothers, cousins and nieces, daughters and sons into these horrible games to die. We can't lose you, I can't lose you." The last part was whispered as she looked back down at her hands, by now both of us had rivers streaming down our faces, the iridescent tears slowly dripping onto the floor. "Angelica, look at me." I firmly stated, " I am not going to die today or tomorrow, or any time soon. Do you hear me? I am not going to leave you alone in this god forsaken world. Okay?" "I hear you," she replied softly, "but I am still terrified." "And you have every right to be, I am frightened too, but just know that I love you and everyone else in this family and I always will." She lifted her head and looked at me, her words caught in her throat but her eyes showed me everything, that she loved me just as much as I loved her. "Come here." I told her and she jumped up and ran into my arms, tears flowing down her face even heavier than before as I held her in my arms. Slowly I opened my mouth and sang.

"Deep in the meadow, under the willow

A bed of grass, a soft green pillow

Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes

And when you awake, the sun will rise.

Here it's safe, here it's warm

Here the daisies guard you from harm

Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true

Here is the place where I love you.

Deep in the meadow, hidden far away

A cloak of leaves, A moonbeam ray,

Forget your woes and let your troubles lay

And when again it's morning, they'll wash away.

Here it's safe, here it's warm

Here the daisies guard you from every harm

Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true

Here is the place where I love you."

As I looked down at Angelica I met her doe-like eyes as together we sand in perfect harmony. As we finished the song Gabe walked in and said, "You two have the voices of angels, especially you Angelica, no pun intended." It was at that moment when I felt all of my terror slip away, if only for the time being, and I smiled at him.
