Prim POV

I can't believe it, Haymitch just laughed at me. He just laughed as I held him in a headlock. He suddenly turned serious and said, "You just destroyed my drinks and you have me in a headlock, you must be desperate for attention." Now I was already filled with anger and this just fanned the flames more (get it? Katniss the girl on fire? No? Okay....). I felt heat rise in my cheeks as they flushed an angry red and I replied in a dead calm voice, "You attacked me for trying tonlive and now you say I need attention, I am sick of attention. That is why I was on my way to my room, now I recommend you quit your drinking before I lose control of my emotions again." Haymitch, a normally indifferent person, allowed himself a tiny gulp of fright before regaining his composure. "Are we settled here?" I asked him, my voice frosty. Obviously his temporary sober moment had been spent because he his eye lids dropped lazily, half closed and half open, as he boasted, "The timid and shy Primrose Everdeen, you have turned into quite the fighter haven't you? Doesn't matter. You'll be like all of the others, those fools. They thought that because their families needed them, because they had love, that they would be safe. Ha! They died on the first day, all of them. Love will never beat skill, remember that little girl." As he had been speaking I had slowly loosened my grip around his neck and he watched me with a mixture of sadness, contempt, and anger in his eyes as I shied away from him. When I was almost five feet away he stopped talking and instead passed out on the floor just as Effie walked through the door calling my name. "Primrose, where are you?" Came a sing-song voice before she looked at her feet in disgust. "Dear, did he scare you? He is suck a pig, I mean, look at this! These carpets are ruined and he has drunk himself into a stupor. Ugh, he is a mess, I am going to get an avox to clean this up and take him to his room." With that she turned on her heel and walked away, not even noticing the silent tears sliding down my face, oblivious to my slipping out of the cart in the other direction. She did not know what he had said, she did not hear the voice telling me that I would die.
