Ruby settled the boys into bed and smiled as she reached for the light to turn it off when Cup sat up in his bed across from where she sat on the edge of Mugman's bed. "Wait! Mama you gotta sing our song!" He protested before her hand could reach the light.
Mugman nodded and sat up, reaching out to play with the ends of ruby's long red hair. "Yeah mama. We can't sleep without our song."
Ruby looked between the two and chuckled. "Oh goodness how could I forget? Mama is silly huh?" She said, moving to sit against the headboard of Mugman bed and pull him to her side.
Cuphead smiled and clamored out of his bed, grabbing the little teddy bear he liked to sleep with before climbing across ruby's lap to sit at the other side of her, snuggling against her as she smiled down at them, nothing but pure mother's love pouring from her gaze. "Are we cozy my little cups?"
The two nodded and giggled. "Yes mama." They said and ruby began to sing her soft lullaby for the boys, her voice that was usually powerful and strong enough to ring across a loud casino and drown out everything else was soft and gentle, quiet and peace bringing.
As she sand Belial, who had been downstairs washing dishes from dinner came to lean on the door frame, watching ruby and the boys as the song slowly carried the rambunctious twins off to sleep and as the song came to a close he stepped inside and slung the dish towel over his shoulder as he sat on the edge of the bed looking at his little family... even if ruby wasn't open to dating this was his family and come hell or high water he wouldn't let anything happen to it.
Ruby looked up from the boys as Belial sat down and she chuckled softly. "Out like lights."
He chuckled. "It's no wonder. Your voice is so soothing it could put Satan to sleep I'd bet." He said, moving to pull cuphead into his arms, cradling the sleeping dish close for a moment before moving him over into his own bed.
"I'd doubt it. He so rarely listened to my singing that if he fell asleep listening to it it would be out of boredom." She said, moving out of Mugmans bed and pulling the blanket up over his sleeping form.
"No. No one could grow bored of hearing you sing. Not even him." Belial said as he moved to pull her to him.
She blushed and looked off. "You're such a flirt Belial."
"I can't help it my dear. You make my heart ache and I have to tell you how I feel..." he lifted her chin to look up at him and she smiled shyly.
He really was a hopeless romantic. The way he smiled at her, the way he held her, even the way he looked at her... it was like having Lucifer, the old Lucifer back. Back before all the bullshit and all the fighting and pain. Back when it was just the two of them. Belial was like a time capsule that held all the best parts of Lucifer.
"Why are you so good to me?" She asked in a whisper.
"Because ruby I love you." He whispered before leaning down and kissing her soft lips.
She closed her eyes and melted into the kiss for a moment, letting herself feel like she was in Lucifer's arms back in that feild, the day the confessed their love to eachother.
Dice cleared his throat from the doorway, an eyebrow raised as he watched ruby and Belial.
She quickly pulled away, blushing like mad as she straightened herself up. "Dice! Honey! What is it?" She asked with a flustered smile.
"Uh there's Blitz on the phone for Belial. He says it's urgent." He said before turning and walking away.
Belial sighed. "I'd better go see what my lackey needs. I can't leave that place alone for an hour without it coming apart." He grumbled before heading out of the boys room, sounding...Just like Lucifer at the casino.
Ruby watched him go, a bit stunned. Hearing Belial talk like that it sent a sensation of anxiety through her that nearly knocked her off her feet. How strange. Yes Belial was like Lucifer back before he became the devil but...He wasn't Lucifer. That was impossible.
She shook her head, smiling at herself and how silly she was being. Letting her fears get her all flustered. If Belial were Lucifer he would have killed her by now for sure, or at the very least drug her back to the casino.
She turned and shut off the lamp between the boys beds and kissed their heads gently before slipping out and closing the door behind her.
In the dark of the room little imps slipped out from under the beds and stood over the boys, watching them sleep and dream. As they were commanded.
