Belial slept peacefully beside her in the dark of the room, the sound of sirens and horns honking on the streets below outside her window and Belial snore was all that ruby could hear but it was all a dull hum to her ears as she stared up at the ceiling in the dark, wide eyed and thinking hard.
Had she imagined it? Surely she had. Surely he didn't call her that. There was no way Belial could know that was what Lucifer had always called her... If he did he wouldn't have called her that right? Right?!
She searched her mind, trying to think if she had ever mentioned that nickname. Even once in the last five years. No... No she hadn't. Surely that meant it was a coincidence... right?
She looked at his sleeping form and bit her lip. Lucifer could shapeshift of course but... she had only ever seen him change size and turn into a goat or goat man thing... He couldn't turn into a man could he?
She shook her head. No way. There was no way in heaven or hell that Belial was Lucifer. She would know. She knew Lucifer better than anyone. If he were Lucifer she and her family would all be dead by now. She knew that.
She moved from the bed and pulled on her robe. She wanted to check on the boys since she couldn't sleep.
She slipped on her slippers and moved out into the hall and down to the boys room, slowly opening the door, making sure to be quiet.
There in their little beds her two boys slept peacefully. Each hugging their respective teddy bear in their sleep, though it looked like cuphead had b3en doing flips in his sleep because now he as upside down with his head hanging off the edge of the bed.
She chuckled and moved into the room, picking him up and laying him down gently back in his proper place on the bed and she pulled the blanket up to his shoulders.
The boy smiled in his sleep and nuzzled himself into his pillow as ruby sat on the edge of his bed, watching the two sleep for a while. "You two and dice are worth every pain I've ever endured. I'd do everything all over again to come back to this moment." She whispered before leaning down to kiss cupheads cheek and stand, moving from the room and out into the hall once more, shutting the door behind herself before moving to check on wheezy dice. She cracked open wheezys door and the man was asleep on top of his covers, still dressed and snoreing loudly. It was a wonder his snore didn't shake the walls.
She shook her head and slipped in, kneeling to take off his boots and lift his feet up onto the bed, taking a blanket from a chair in the room and draping it over him before leaving and heading to dice's room.
She hesitated outside his door as she noticed light peaking out from under it. She listened at the door for a moment before cracking it when she didn't hear anything.
Dice sat awake on his bed reading a book and he glanced up to see ruby there.
"Mom? That you?"
She stepped in and smiled, "baby what are you doing up? It's so late."
He chuckled, closing his book and smiling at her.
"I could ask you the same thing mom." He retorted in his usual fashion of mild sass.
She rolled her eyes and moved to sit next to him.
"I just couldn't sleep. Your dear old mama has a lot on her mind."
He nodded and moved to lay down, his head in her lap and she patted his head gently.
"Wanna talk about it?" He asked and she shook her head.
"My worries aren't for you sweetie. Now why are you up?" She asked.
He sighed and glanced off, "just thinking about some personal stuff I guess."
"Such as?"
"Mom... You'd love me no matter what right?"
She blinked and her eyes softened, her head tilting to the side as she looked down at her son, "King Dice. I'd love you if you were a mass murderer. I'd love you if you blew up half of new York. Hell I'd lobe you if you blew up all of new York. Dice there isn't anything you can do to make me not love you."
He smiled up at her and slowly sat up, taking her hands in his. "Mom... I have something I need to tell you."
She smiled warmly, "You can tell me anything."
"I.... mom i.... I'm gay." He said softly, little tears pouring from his lavender eyes, "please don't hate me."
She looked at dice, a little stunned but then she smiled and moved to cup his face in her hands, making him look at her.
"Oh sweet boy. That's all?" She whispered, "You had me worried you were out there doing scams again or fighting. Dice honey there is nothing wrong with being gay. Oh my baby." She pulled him into her arms and hugged him tight to her chest. "I love you so much. Thank you for telling me. I know that wasn't easy."
He wrapped his arms around her and pressed his face to her neck as he cried against her. "I love you too mama. Thank you!" He said through his sobs.
She rubbed his back and rocked him back and forth, letting him cry out all his fear, whispering that he was safe and loved again and again to him until he called down.
When he pulled away he sniffled and she dried his face with the sleeve of her robe. "I only have one question."
"Yeah mom?" He asked
"Do you have a boyfriend?" She asked with a big smile. "Cause if you do I have to meet them. They need mama's stamp of approval to date my sweet baby dice."
Dice beamed and laughed brightly, "Oh mom! No I'm still single!" He assured and she laughed with him.
"Ok but keep that in mind. My baby's partner will be mom checked." She warned, making dice laugh harder.
"Yes ma'am." He said brightly.
Ruby felt so lucky to be as close as she was with dice. She was so glad he trusted her and was willing to tell her these things. She knew dice had a rough road ahead being gay but he would always have her at his back.
