Ruby stared at him, her hands folded in her lap, silence hanging in the air for the longest time, the only sounds were the boys snoring quietly in the next room and the cute little cat clock on the wall tick toking away. Eventually she tore here eyes away from him to look down at her lap and her lips curled up into an incredulous smile as tears filled her eyes. "Y-youre sorry? You're fucking sorry?" She whispered.
The audacity. She couldn't fathom how he thought that could possibly be enough. How that could even begin to be a true apology. Let alone how it could begin to make up for all her suffering.
Lucifer looked at her confused, he didn't expect this reaction but he was going to let her get whatever feelings she had out. She deserved that.
She chuckled as the tears fell and she looked back at him. "You're sorry. Lucifer for centuries I stood by your side. In spite of the fact that you all but ignored me. When I did get attention I was "driving you mad" or I was "under your skin" because I dared to plead for the man I married to come back to me." She stood and limped over to the counter, putting her hands on it, her back to him. "And now, as if pushing me to my absoulout breaking point hadn't been enough you show up after nearly 6 years and reveal that you did exactly as I ask, not for me but for yourself and to top it all off you lied to me and made me think I was finally free of my past when in fact my past had never fucking left me at all!" She whipped around to glare at him. He flinched as he met her gaze and he bowed his head.
"Ruby i..." She held up her hand and cut him off.
"I'm not fucking done. You never listened before well you're gonna fucking listen now." She snapped. "You not only made me fall for that fake version of you but you made my son's love you, my best friend could count on you, my eldest son works for you again after I did all I could to protect him from you. We're you just going to hide in that false skin for the rest of our lives? Why did you chase me through the hotel? At what point did you gain the ability to lie!? This is fucked Lucifer. This is so fucked and that even by my standards for you."
She shook her head her shoulders began to shake as she spoke, she never realized under all the pain and loneliness just how angry she had actually been past the day she left.
He sighed and nodded, all of that was fair. "I never lied. I can't. I never said anything that wasn't true. Others did with my influence in those directions but I never did...I love you. I love dice. I love the twins. This is my family. I regret that you ever suffered by the hand of someone who was supposed to love you." He said, moving to stand up and she watched him and shook her head again, covering her mouth as she sniffled. He couldn't lie. Which meant all of that was true. All of the last five years had been true.
She bowed her head and let her tears drip to the floor as he moved to her and she looked up quickly, a small twing of panic in her eyes and she flinched as he lifted his hand to touch her cheek.
"I will never hurt you again ruby." He swore and she closed her eyes slowly as she let him touch her face and she instantly resolved into sobs and melted into his touch, reaching out a hand to weave into the fur on his chest and she looked up at him. "Oh fucking Christ... I missed you so much. I'm so sorry for all the awful things I've said. I ... I just..."
He shook his head, blood tearstipped the corners of his eyes. "Don't you be sorry. Everything you said about me I earned. You deserve to feel that way. To hate me. You my dear, have nothing to be sorry for. Everything, from the very start, was my doing." He assured, taking her face in both hands, looking her in the eyes and for the first time in centuries she felt a peace truly wash over her. She closed her eyes and moved to wrap her arms around him, pressing her face into his fur. She was home.
He held her tight, while also being careful of her fresh bruises. He felt whole. She was his, truly his once more. No one was gonna take her from him. Not now. Not ever. Now he just had to go about convincing dice and wheezy...that would be far more difficult but worth the effort for his family. For his beloved treasure.
