The next day was Hell, waking up hung over was never fun, even for an immortal being. Somehow Lucifer always managed go know when she had drank too much and always seemed to feed off making her feel worse.
When she entered her office there were two stacks of papers as tall as she was on her desk with a note between them from Lucifer that read, "Gonna be in Hell today. Need you to do my paperwork for me. Hope you don't mind." He signed it and everything and she snarled.
"That over grown cat! That rat fink! That bastard!" She said through her teeth as she sat down and got to work on the papers, her head pounding as she worked. She was so done with his shit. Today was not the day to mess with her. In fact...
She looked up from the papers and bit her lip. Why was she doing this? She had plenty of her own money, plenty of time laid out before her too... why did she need some demon in her life who was nothing but an annoyance and a head ache?
The answer was she didn't. The only thing she needed was two little pieces of paper. Two soul contracts. Dice. And wheezy.
She stood from her desk and marched herself up to his office. If he was gonna spend the day in hell it was the perfect opportunity to leave without a him turning into a whining baby at her feet and guilting her into staying.
She went behind his desk, moving his chair and flipped the large rug it sat on out of the way to reveal a floor safe. She knelt down and turned the tumbler around and around. Until she heard a loud clink ring through the room. She and Lucifer were the only two who knew that code. It was her birthday. That was the code he used for everything.
She opened the large heavy metal door and inside were thousands of contracts but ruby wasn't dumb. She knew those weren't the important ones were hidden in a small secret panel off to the side, which she opened and pulled out all the contracts for the people who worked in the casino and she swallowed hard as she pulled out wheezys and dices.
This was a turning point. This was the day that would change her entire life if she went through with this.
Stealing soul contracts from Satan might as well be a death sentence but... She didn't care anymore.

She stood and put wheezy and dices contracts in one hand and the rest of the casino's in the other and she headed back up to the casino.
"Everyone. I'm calling a meeting." She called over the room and all the employees who were working on their opening duties perked up and came over to gather around the bar where she moved to.
"What's up mom?" Dice asked and she smiled softly.
"When I call your name step up." She said, looking out at her employees.
She went down the list, handing each one their contract as she called their name and the stepped up.
"You can do with these as you will. You're free to leave with them but I'd leave inkwell if you do. You're also free to give it back to Satan when he comes back. You can hide it but Satan won't be happy about that but as I said it's up to you. As for myself and dice we will be leaving today. I wanted you all to know it has been a pleasure working with you, I hope you find happiness and I hope you live your lives to the fullest." She said as she moved to take Dice's hand and wheezys and pull them away from the crowd and to her room where she handed them their contracts.
Wheezy was near tears as he sat down and held the paper in his hand. "Ruby... why now?"
She shrugged. "I'm officially out of fucks to give for him and his bullshit." She said as she went to her room and grabbed her suitcases and opened them on her bed, theming in her clothes and photos. "Dice honey go pack. Quickly. I don't know when he's coming back." She said handing him a bag and he blinked, stunned but he quickly nodded and listened to his mama, going to pack his things.
"Wheezy. I want you to come with us. You're my very best friend and I want you to stay with me where I know you're safe."
Wheezy looked up and smiled. "Well how can I say no to you boss. I'll meet you out front in 10 minutes." He said as he stood and dashed across the hall to his room to pack his own things.
And 10 minutes later the three of them were packed and on the front steps, climbing into a cab, headed for the docks together.
Ruby bought them all tickets to the main land and they boarded the boat and off they went.
She went to the back of the boat once the boys were settled into the cabin and watched as inkwell disappeared into the horizon. She would always call Inkwell home and she would always be bound at the soul to Lucifer but she was done with his shit. She had suffered through enough of it over the centuries and she was finally done. And now she was finally free. Free.
