Ruby stood outside the apartment door around the time wheezy was supposed to be coming home. She was smoking a cigarette, trying to calm her nerves as she tried to think of a way to break the news to her dear old friend.
Wheezy grunted as he made his way up the last stair at the end of the hall and he looked up to see ruby, nervously smoking outside the apartment. "Ruby? Are you ok?" He asked as he got closer. Ruby rarely smoked those days. She had all but quit.
"Wheezy. Welcome home...how was your day?" She asked, trying to sound calm.
He raised an eyebrow, "it was fine... what's going on?"
She bit her lip and reached out to take his hand. "I've got something to tell you..."
"Please don't tell me you're pregnant again. I'll fucking kill Belial. BELIAL!" He yelled, pushing past her and into the apartment.
"Wheezy! Wheezy wait! No!" Ruby tried to stop him but before she could wheezy was inside and staring at Satan who was playing with blocks with the twins. He looked up and smiled a little nervously, "oh... hey wheezy... I'm guessing ruby didn't have a chance to explain things yet?"
Ruby rushed to stand in front of wheezy and she put her hands on his chest. "Wheezy hold on. Before you freak out..."
"Freak out? Me freak out?! No no no! You're the one who threw yourself from a two story cat walk to get away from him and now he's baby sitting the boys!?" Wheezy snapped, taking her shoulders and giving her a little shake. "Ruby! What are you thinking?! I know how much you loved him! I know you're bonded at the soul but...but he's Satan! He has almost killed you! He was gonna kill your son! He..."
Ruby slapped her hand over his mouth, "wheezy! Stop! The boys are right there. Let me get them up to their room and then you can rant and rave to your hearts content." She hissed and wheezy took a breath before nodding and letting her go.
Ruby nodded before turning to go pick up the twins and she took them upstairs, setting them in their room, assuring them that everything was gonna be fine and asking them to stay in their room for a while before returning downstairs to find wheezy pouring a drink at the kitchen counter and Lucifer sitting on the sofa.
She sighed and wheezy came back in, downing half the drink before he looked between the two. "Honestly ruby... You can't be serious about this...."
"I am.... I wanna give him a chance. He's been here this whole time and has done nothing to harm us."
"What do you mean? He's been here the whole time? How?"
Lucifer sighed and shifted his shape to that of Belial. "I simply wanted to be apart of her life again..." He explained.
Wheezy looked at him stunned, "You ignored her for centuries and the second she turns her back on you you decide to change?! That's fucked up Lucifer! She deserves the world and all you ever gave her was grief. She's a damned goddess and you treated her like dirt under your shoe!"
Satan bowed his head and nodded. "You're right. I did. She didn't deserve it. Not at all. She deserves far better than I could ever hope to be...but doesn't she deserve to make that choice herself?"
"It's not just her anymore! Ruby! What about the boys? You can't seriously want them around him!" Wheezy pleaded.
"He had been here for their entire lives wheezy. Same as you. He has cared for them and me and dice and even you! I know this is a lot to ask wheezy and I know it's hard but... please... please trust me." She said, moving to him and taking his large hand in both of her small ones, looking up at him with pleading eyes.
He flinched as she locked eyes with him in that way. She knew him like the back of her hand and so she knew how to get him to listen. He sighed and sat his glass down before placing his free hand on her cheek.
"Ruby... i... I just don't wanna see you get hurt. You're my best friend. Before I met you I had no one and nothing... now because of you I have a family and a life I'm proud of of. You're my sister and I just wanna protect you."
She smiled and leaned against his hand gently, enjoying the gesture.
"I know you do wheezy. I love you so much and I'm so greatful to have you in my life. I wouldn't be half of who I am without you. If this turns out badly you can say I told you so for the rest of our lives. Alright?"
He shook his head and bit his lip glancing over at Lucifer before looking back to Ruby. "Deal." He said before pulling her into a hug.
She beamed as he hugged her and she wrapped her arms around him too. "Thank you my friend." She whispered.
