"Shikamaru, I'm starving, and I need food right now. Get me some immediately," Hoshiko stated groggily from her position collapsed on the floor of the living room, having just woken up and not ready to face anything the world threw at her. Shikamaru sighed.

"Come and get your breakfast, then."

"Bring it to me," Hoshiko whined, smacking the floor in a vain attempt to scare him into doing it-and failing. Miserably.

"I'm not your servant, you insufferable girl."

"No, but you are my butler, so bring me my food, Mr. Nara."

Shikamaru sighed. "No pain, no gain, lady. Either you get your butt off the floor and get your meal or you go hungry." Of course, Hoshiko made a dramatic scene of the whole thing, claiming she was crippled and to help a poor handicapped child out, and when that didn't work, created a show of stumbling and tripping all over herself, finally making it to the kitchen counter.

"Ye hath committed a great crime today, Shikamaru of the Nara clan," she declared solemnly. Shikamaru looked down at Hoshiko with an expression of wonder and disdain.

"Yes, yes, and I'll be getting divine punishment one of these days," he sighed. "Now, how's the food? I'm trying a new recipe and I need to know if I should add more salt." Hoshiko chewed thoughtfully, then came to a conclusion.

"It's perfect," she said simply.

Just then, a sleek raven so black it seemed purple landed in the window and started pecking obnoxiously on the glass pane. Hoshiko stared at the bird, then fell to her knees, clapping her two hands together and held it above her head. "Forgive me, hokage, for I cannot make it to this mission. I have other duties to attend to, oh great one. Forgive me!" She peeked over her shoulder at the raven, who had stopped to look at her, then cawed loudly, flapping everywhere. A moment later, it steadied itself and continued its tapping.

Shikamaru snorted. "You're always so dramatic. You have the energy to send a telepathic message to the hokage, yet can't even get your breakfast."

"For the record, it wasn't telepathic," Hoshiko grumbled back. Shikamaru shrugged.

"Either way, we have a mission," he said as he opened the window and the raven hopped onto his finger. Lifting the tiny paper tied to its leg, he fed the bird some bread crumbs and opened the message, reading aloud. "Shikamaru Nara, Neji Hyuga, Hoshiko Agawa, and Kiba Inuzuka are to report to the hokage's house within half an hour. Mission details will be disclosed there." You sighed again. "Go wake them up and tell them to get dressed, Hoshiko."

"With pleasure," responded the girl, now grinning devil, and stalked over to the bedroom. It was a simple one, with a stair about three feet high in the middle of the room with two sleeping bags, where the girls slept, and four sleeping bags on the floor, where the boys slept. She walked over to Neji and Kiba, standing over them for a few seconds, contemplating. Then she reached down and smacked Kiba across the back of his neck and dropped a water orb onto Neji. They both woke up with a gasp, sitting straight up.

"Wake-up, children," Hoshiko demanded, throwing open the curtains and letting the sun shine in. "Its a beautiful day, and we have a mission, and I need to devise a plan to get out of it."

"Well you can't do that, so might as well get ready, am I right?" said Shikamaru, who was standing in the doorway. Hoshiko heaved an elephantine sigh, and skulked over to the bathroom one of two in the house, grabbing her clothes and headband out of the closet along the way.

She slipped her white tube top on. Then her one-shoulder kimono style dress, made for combat, tightening the sash around her waist. She pulled on her cream colored biker shorts, then hopped into her calf-high boots.

She picked up her headband and tied it around her thigh, pulling the knot tight and hard, then swept her hair into a messy high bun, the front strands hanging down, framing her face, a familiar dance that she was used to, this getting ready

She splashed some cold water on her face to wake herself up, then slunk out of the bathroom, still salty that she had to go on a mission so early in the morning. Tenten had woken up too (leaving Naruto the only one still sleeping), and was grabbing dishes for Shikamaru to put everyone's breakfast on. "Morning," she chirped as she spotted Hoshiko. "Have you eaten yet?" She finished pulling down plates and started retreating to the living room with her own food.

"Good morning," Hoshiko responded cheerily. "And yes, I was just finishing my breakfast when that cursed bird decided to ruin my day." Tenten chuckled. It's not that bad, you know. A little exercise can't hurt, and I bet it's an easy mission, too." She flopped onto the couch and picked up the book Neji had been reading the previous day, marking the page and flipping to her own bookmark a few pages ahead. Hoshiko chuckled, then turned to Kiba and Neji, the former wolfing down his breakfast at the table, and the latter leaning against the doorway, trying to discreetly watch Tenten, who was sprawled on the sofa, reading his book.

Hoshiko smirked. That man is so in love, she thought, smiling ever wider at the thought.

"What are you grinning like a goon for?" said a voice from behind. It was Shikamaru, watching her with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh, nothing," she replied airily, waving away the question. Shikamaru shrugged. "Okay, I guess. Now, are you ready for our mission?"

"Ready as I'll ever be."
