"Hoshiko, mind helping me wash the dishes?" Shikamaru called dryly, staring at the mound of dirty dishes towering precariously in the sink. Hoshiko shrugged. "It's not my fault you left them there for three days. There are six people in this house, each with an amazingly huge appetite. You should just be grateful Choji isn't here. Either way, it was a dumb move putting it off until now. I have your paperwork to fill out, so my hands are tied." She looked around, spotting Kiba sitting on the couch.
"Hey, Kiba! You're not doing anything, go help Shikamaru wash the dishes."
"Why me?" He grumbled back, giving the room a once over, his eyes landing on Neji, who was reading a book, leaning on the wall. "Why don't you ask Neji?"
"Because, Kiba, Neji is reading, whereas you're lazing around on the couch. He had the brains to make himself busy, whereas you didn't deem it worthy of your time. Neji saw the Shikamaru's complaint coming a million miles away, whereas you-"
"Alright, alright, you don't have to insult me until I go," Kiba grumbled, stomping over to the kitchen. Hoshiko grinned, enjoying the moment of satisfaction before her joy was wiped off her face and tossed into a pit of lava as she looked down at the sad pile of paperwork leering up at her, daring her to keep smiling. She didn't.
As the only one with the motivation, brains, and patience to do paperwork, everyone dumped the painful aftermath of exciting missions onto Hoshiko's head. She would have made Shikamaru do it, but, he didn't have enough motivation to. And besides, he made the food, and it was worth filling out some forms to taste his delicious meals. But, rooming with 5 other people, 4 of them boys, wasn't all bad. Everyone had a job. Shikamaru made the food, Hoshiko and Tenten (who was not here to help her out of her unfortunate predicament) did the paperwork, Neji took inventory of everything in the house, Kiba went shopping when the need arose, and Naruto worked to keep the house squeaky clean (he refused to do anything more taxing).
Somewhere in another part of the village, there was another house, home to the rest of their friends: Choji, Ino, Shino, Lee, and Hinata. Together, they all made up the Leaf 11, a hierarchy of the best young shinobi in the village.
***Note from the Narrator: The hierarchy isn't mentioned much, but there is one, and it goes from bottom to top as follows: Ino Yamanaka, Choji Akimichi, Kiba Inuzuka, Hinata Hyuga, Tenten, Shino Aburame, Rock Lee, Shikamaru Nara, Neji Hyuga, Hoshiko Agawa, and Naruto Uzumaki.***
And so begins the tale of Hoshiko Agawa, the two-faced jinchuriki, the Spirit of Life and Death, the Triple-Threat Swordswoman, The Bloody Star. A story of love, heartbreak, change, acceptance, and friends.
